I made an inexpensive shelf next to the bed to hold our clock and my glasses at night. It is 4" wide and 14" long. I used light weight materials: cardboard, foam block, contact paper, dbl sided tape and 3M strips to mount it to the wall. The bedroom slide clears it by an inch so it doesn't need to be removed when traveling. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the pocket door either. And it achieved my primary goal ... to get the bed making space back!
