Here's the route we took a couple years ago along with the parks. The park in Iowa was right on the river and beautiful. There's an old mill just up the road through which most of the grain for the North in the Civil War passed. And there's the Corn Palace in Muscatine. The Rafter J is also a beautiful park in a great location for seeing Custer and the nearby sites. If you got to Custer State Park, stop at the Ranger Station and ask where the buffalo are that day. They steered us right to the middle of them literally. Don't know this was the best route, but it was fun and interesting.
