ATF: MPG - Lippert Hybrid axle bar for MPG

I believe their trailer is a 2011 year model just like my 181. I am not sure about the inspection of the wheel bearings as yet since I have not had the chance to catch up with them. As soon as I know, I will post an update. Thanks.

    Rear Window Leaking Again!!

I found the culprit. The three marker lights above the rear window were the problem. I checked and found that most of the factory caulk had disappeared and water was getting in behind the lens caps. That water was running down the inside of the roof, down to the top of the window on the...

ATF: MPG - Lippert Hybrid axle bar for MPG

Hello... I own an MPG 181 and a neighbor down the street owns the 183 model (or whichever one has the bunks in it). They stopped by to tell me that they had a little incident with their trailer during our recent Easter Break. The wheel on the driver's side fell of while they were traveling...

    Rear Window Leaking Again!!

Hello again. I found out through trial and error that the rear window on my MPG 181 was not the source of the water leaks. I had masked off the rear window with a couple large garbage bags and duct tape. Soon afterwards, we had more rain come through and I found a lot of water in the plastic...

    Rear Window Leaking Again!!

I have been traveling back and forth to our trailer to check on it and it still leaks. After the rain stopped for a day, I was able to totally cover the rear window with plastic and duct tape until I can really get to it this spring. I also found a leak going into the storage box next to the...

    Rear Window Leaking Again!!

Thanks for the ideas. I have noticed that the caulking around the windows appears to be putty. It has become quite brittle now and I will bring my trailer home and spend an entire spring day taking out the old and putting in new sealant. Our summers here in NoCal are hot and I am sure that is...

    Rear Window Leaking Again!!

I went to check on my trailer a few weeks ago to see how it was doing and I found water and wetness on the seat cushions and table. Not much my things were damp. I decided to dry things up and place a 2" deep plastic tray under the center of the rear window on the table. I knew that a rather...

    ADCO RV Covers

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. If I had the cash to store my trailer inside, I certainly would. The summer here in Northern California are HOT and SUNNY, but that is not when I usually cover mine. It is usually in the winter months when we are not traveling around that it will be covered...

    ADCO RV Covers

Has anyone ordered a special ordered RV cover for their MPG from ADCO? I just talked to Paul (Adco) on the phone and he says that he does have the plans on hand for the MPG 181 and 183 and can make it for me. I am interested to hear from someone who has had one made and if it fits better than...

    TV Mount Location

I am sure that this question has already been asked once or twice, but I did not want to take the time right now to hunt down the answer to my question. I own an MPG 181 and would like to install a TV mount on the wall above where there is a TV platform (with the audio system). I remember...

    Ceiling Separation

We took our 181 out for its first outing of the new year and everything seemed fine with the roof panel now. Not sure if it was the cold or dampness inside the trailer that caused the roof panel to "bulge", but it is all better now. But on this last trip, we had a problem with the water pump...

Self Contained Awning for the MPG

I have been on a constant search for an awning that will work on my MPG 181 since I bought it. I was never interested in the Cabana room offered by Heartland. I have found one at Camping World made by Horizon that should work, but have not really talked to them about it yet. I did however...

    Ceiling Separation

My wife and I went to check our MPG 181 recently in storage and found that part of the ceiling panel near the rear window has separated. I am assuming that the glue used to keep it tight to the frame has failed. It could have been due to all the rain we had this month. Possibly moisture inside...

    ATF: MPG - Window Leak

I had the same problem, but with the rear window on my 181. I took it into the dealer to fix and they found the window seal had failed. They took the glass out and resealed it with quality super-dooper sealant. They suggested to me afterwards to crack a window or the vent when operating the...

    Window EZ Gutter

Yes, I thought about putting them on the fiberglass around the window frame, but elected this time to put the gutters on the frame itself. I will see how it works on the frame for now and if it does not do the job, I will order some more gutter and put it on the fiberglass panel above the...

    Window EZ Gutter

Chances are they will stay in place. The 3M pad that holds the gutters in place is pretty good and even if I tried at the moment, I do not think I could get them off without a heat gun. We will see how our summer heat and sun does for them. I will let you know too how they work for us.

    Window EZ Gutter

A little history first... I have an MPG 181 with front and rear windows. I have had problems after our last winter rains with the rear window leaking from time to time, so I took it into the dealer. The dealer found that the seal around the glass had failed, so they took the glass out and...

ATF: MPG - Furnace Very Loud

We have a 181 and found that the furnace was very loud and in a lousy place, right under the bed. We now use an AC electric heater which keeps us comfortable and it is much quieter. Plus, we use the space under the bed near the furnace to store our clothing bags while out.

    MPG 181 Slider Operation

Everytime I store my trailer, I remove the negative side of the battery. Not sure why the one that originally came with the trailer decided to die so soon, but now I have a new one on there and it works fine. What I am still wanting to know is why wouldn't the slider open with AC connected...

    MPG 181 Slider Operation

During a very recent weekend getaway, I picked up our 181 at the storage lot to find that the battery only had about 2 volts of power. I hooked it up and thought that maybe it would charge up on the way to our destination which was about two hours away. When we were setting up the trailer, I...

    Horizontal windows leaking

After a couple days of rain, I decided to go over and check on my MPG 181 this afternoon. I found a puddle of water on the inside lip of the rear window. Not sure where this water is coming in from, but I suspect the outer seal that surrounds the window. Mine has a 3/8" gap in the seal and...

    181 Table Bed Fit Problems

I noticed this blurb awhile back, so I thought that I would check our table. I took the table out and set it down on the two supports, placed the cushions down and everything appears to be alright with ours. I don't think that I would lie down on it for a nights sleep, but for the grandkids...

    Horizontal windows leaking

We took our MPG 181 out for a two day trip to Yosemite this past week and when we arrived at our campground, we too found that the rear horizontal window over the dinette had been leaking. The cushions were wet, but I could not nail down where the water was exactly coming from. I looked around...

MPG Compartment Locks - Difficulty to use

Re: Useless Compartment Locks I wish that you had replied to this message before I went and purchased new locks. I tried what you said here about possibly putting the key in upside down and darn if you weren't right. The key will go into the slot either way but only open one way. I tried...

MPG Compartment Locks - Difficulty to use

Re: Useless Compartment Locks Well, I spent a good part of my Sunday running to the RV parts store that was opened and picked up five brand new compartment locks. After I got home from the first trip, I found out I had purchased the 5/8" model and had to run back to the parts store to get the...

MPG Compartment Locks - Difficulty to use

Re: Useless Compartment Locks I will try to work those locks free tomorrow and if it still does not work, new locks might be in order. I did try to push in hard to relieve the pressure, while attempting to turn the key, but the key was still not turning. I was afraid of breaking a key off...

MPG Compartment Locks - Difficulty to use

My wife and I picked up our MPG 181 this afternoon because we plan on heading out next week. When I attempted to open one of the outside compartments, I found that the key would not open the lock. I could have tried to force the lock to open, but did not want to break off the whimpy key in the...

    MPG custom cover

I too debated over purchasing a custom cover versus the ADCO 20' model, but went with the premade 20' model. As the other member stated, there is a lot of extra material, front and back with the conventional 20' cover. I would have liked to have gotten the custom model myself, but was too cheap.

    Anyone near Fresno, CA?

Live here in the Sacramento area and you may be able to find a unit available at RVs of Sacramento. Also in Manteca. Check out this website: http://www.rvsofsac.com/rvshowroom/Heartland/MPG/Travel-Trailers.aspx I purchased the 181 from them back in September and they may have a few left...

    Trailer Cover

Recently bit the bullet and purchased a generic ADCO 20' cover at Camping World. They are currently on sale. I put it over my 181 today and it appears to do what it needs to do. There is a little extra material in the front and back, but the unit is well covered all the way up to the hitch.

    MPG speakers

I tried getting my iphone to work through the USB connection on the radio and it does not work. The booklet states that the receiver must be in the DVD mode in order to use the USB/SD functions on the radio. Have not tried that yet.

    Design Change Ideas

Concerning the two cabinet doors above the stove. In my 181, the doors do stay open. It is the type of hinge they used on mine I guess, but they do stay open.

Heard a rumor that 2012 will be the last year for the MPG?

Yep, the Heartland MPG series has been removed from the Heartland Website. I would like to think that I now own a retro MPG trailer that might one day be worth a lot of money, since a limited number of the models were manufactured. Or not. Glad I bought one when I did and the price was very good.

Anyone install an awning on their MPG?

Yes, I have seen that room awning and I really don't care much for it. I am sure that there is an awning system out there somewhere that will work on the MPG.

Anyone install an awning on their MPG?

Great idea! I was thinking of something down that same road, but I wonder if perhaps a slightly shorter awning would work better. I noticed the three step ladder in the first photo, so I am assuming that was enough to reach the track at the top of the trailer for the awning bag to slip into...

Anyone install an awning on their MPG?

I spoke with the dealer about that very same question. Their response, after market awnings probably will not fit properly on the MPG to do any good, because of the shape of the roof line. Camping World has a nice after market awning that might fit the MPG, but on the 181, the support legs...

    Personalizing my 186T, part 1

These are some terrific modifications. My wife and I just took our 181 out on its maiden voyage this past weekend and wrote down all kinds of things that are pictured here. Great ideas and I hope to use some of them and perhaps come up with some more. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

MPG's; When did they start putting the front window in?

My new 181 has windows in the front and rear, and the comment about being a good target for a rock is a good thought. Perhaps one could find a good after market rock guard for the front window.

Where is my external radio antenna?

I did go down this morning to speak with one of the reps at the dealer and he said, either they started with the ribbon type of antenna and then moved to the outside antenna, or vice-versa. One other unit that was still on their lot didn't have an external antenna either, so perhaps the factory...
