Rick, Here is a link to the TIMK (tent in the vent mod). I will be in Branson if you have any questions.

Rick, Jim is right, you wouldn't want the 15k unit in the bedroom. The unit is much taller than the low profile model and it is a ducted unit meaning it was designed to be used with ducted outlets. Would probably be to much airflow in the bedroom and noisy.
Tankie, Here is the link where I...
For Sale: Dometic Duo-Therm Air conditioning unit
15K (ducted) Dometic Duo-Therm Air conditioning unit. This unit was taken off of our 2009 Bighorn 3400RL and replaced with a Carrier Heat pump. We have taken the Bighorn out 3 times since we purchased it and one afternoon I used the AC for...
I purchased a Travel soft rv1200 water softener on ebay. Does anyone have any experience with this softener?? It says to use solar salt or rock salt. I put water softener pellets in before I noticed it said on the label not to use pellets.
I can't seem to find a manual online. Any help...
OKC-Branson
Ray, I am from Oklahoma and presently live in Harrison AR which is 35 miles south of Branson. There is only one route I would consider if I was going to Branson from OKC. Straight up Interstate 44 to Springfield Mo. Then south on Hwy 65 to Branson. Should take between 5 1/2 to 6...
I just received my new Carrier heat pump a couple of days ago and was wondering if anyone has switched to a heat pump?
I will be changing out the 15k Duo-Therm, ducted unit for the Carrier 15k heat pump on my 2009 3400RL. I have read the instructions and it seems like a fairly simple...
Good article on surge protection
Interesting read on why you should own a surge protector.
Happy Reading !:)

I bought this hitch from the recommendation of another member here. I really like the quality and look of the Q5. Works very smooth for me...
I was over at my storage building this morning and I noticed that my Bighorn is clearly marked on the off door side (fresh water drain). I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I guess, I assumed after seeing several posts and pictures of the clear hose used on some trailers that I was also...
Well I was looking for a clear line like I had seen in a couple of other posts on the forum. I can't believe they use such a small line for the drain. Looks like 3/8" tubing to me. I also put about 10 gallons of water in the fresh water tank last time I was out and I barely got 1/2 of a...
I have been all under my 2009 3400RL looking for the fresh water tank drain. There is a low point drain underneath on the off door side for cold water (blue). And a low point drain under the door side just in front of the entry steps for cold (blue) and hot (red) lines.
I rolled all around...
My 3400RL also has the winterizing kit including the hot water heater bypass. It seems like a very nice system.
The temperature got down to 9 degrees F last night in NW AR. I went over to my storage building this morning. I had placed a temp. guage there last night just to see how cold it...
Guys, Thanks for the responses. I figured with the water heater empty and the bypass valve open I would be pretty much using the hot water tank as an air tank. Since the HW tank is a 12 gallon tank and my air tank is 7 gallons I didn't think there would be any way to over pressurize the system...
I am going to winterize my 3400RL this evening for the first time. It's supossed to get in the low teens again here in AR tonight.
Can I use a 7 gallon airtank to air the water system up and then open the water faucets in the 5er to force the water out of the lines?
My plan is to drain the...
V92c,
Was this a kit building or did you design it yourself ?
I have been thinking about building about the same size for my 5er.
How much to build this size garage ?
Thanks, Jeff
Northwest Region?
Jim,
I think you are pretty much on track but in my mind I just can't picture N. Carolina, Virginia or W. Virginia in the S.E. region. Also I think you could split some of the west region out and form a N.W. region. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Damage repair
What sold me on the Gel coat was the repairability factor. If you should get in a wreck or accidentally run into something or god forbid have a tire blowup on you, it is supposedly much easier to match the smooth surface of the gel coated sides. They say its very hard to repair...
Hey guys,
I was in our local TSC (tractor supply co.) store last week and they had the same Champion 3500w generator for sale. It looked like a very high quality gen. for the price. I believe they had it priced at $290.00. I will probably buy one this week to use on the occasional dry...
I agree, I am very impressed with the insulation on the Bighorns.
We picked up our new 3400RL on Dec. 8th in Richmond IN. I stayed in the BH one night on the dealers lot to check it out and get a good nights sleep, before heading out for its new home in Arkansas.
The temperature got down...
Thanks for the responses. Actually the two appliances that I guess I was most concerned about are the water heater and the furnance. They offer an extended warranty on each for $25.00. These units are fairly expensive to replace (about $600 ea.). We plan to use the BH quit regularly and didn't...
I was filling out the warranty card on our new 3400RL today and noticed that several appliances have an option for an extented warranty. I think if I remember correctly that it was for the furnance and the hot water heater and refrig. The olevia tv also has this option. I usually pass on all...
I ordered a BH 3400RL from rv pricebusters on 10-19-07. We picked it up on 12-05-07. I checked all of the big online dealers prices and they gave me the best price. We added the following factory installed options that the other dealers did not include in their quotes and rv pricebusters was...
I was in the process of ordering a War-lok for my new Bighorn when I realized you might not have enough clearance for the lock to fit on with the teflon lube plate installed. I called a War-lok dealer and he didn't think you could install it with the lube plate in place. Do'es anyone know if...
Thanks for the info to all who responded. I like the war-loc the best. Is the kingpin diameter the same on the 5er as on an 18 wheeler?? I know the war-loc is primarily sold for the big rigs ? right??
Thanks, Jeff
I picked up our new 3400RL last week in Indiana and got her back to Arkansas in one piece although the weather didn't cooperate very well.
I ran into some freezing rain in the St. Louis area that had me on edge for a couple of hours.
I am looking for recommendations on a good quality king pin...
Katkens, I am going to put it up on a lift and double check to see if I can find the harness but I have been under it thoroughly on a creeper and unless it is above the fuel tank (which you can't get to) my truck doesn't have the additional harness. My truck does however have the heavy duty...
Katkens, I took the truck down to the dealer and we looked under it everywhere and could not find a factory harness. They said the truck has to be ordered with the camper special option (for use w/slide camper) for it to have this additional harness. Of course my truck has the factory installed...
I'm trying to get my final preparations in order on my tow vehicle as our new 3400RL is supposed to roll of of the line Tommorrow (11-20-07). I will be picking it up at the Dealer the first week of Dec.
I am going to add a trailer plug in the bed of my truck and have been told to run a...
Guys this is just an update on the hitch weights. I just talked to a Curt dealer and the shipping weight for the universal rail kit is 90#. So we are thinking that the net weight is in the 80-85# range. Add this to the advertised weight of the hitch (121#) and the combined weight of the hitch...
Thanks to all for the fast responses. I ordered my 3400RL last friday, and I can't wait to try it out, but I have to get the truck ready!! I will be pulling it with an 2007 GMC 2500HD crew cab,D/A, 6'6" bed. I really like the benefits of the flat bed when using the turnoverball/companion hitch...
I believe I have narrowed my choices down to two hitches. The B&W companion and the Curt 20k. I usually trade trucks every 2 or 3 years and if I decided to buy the B&W, do they make a plug for the 4" hole that would be in the bed, if I removed the hitch to put it in another TV. And does anyone...
Thanks Doug, I did just look at their website and you are right, it looks like those brackets bolt under the bed to the frame. Makes since now.
Thanks, Jeff
Folks, I am looking at a slightly used Husky 4 way swivel 16k hitch (part #07054) with the rail system. It appears that it has both rails, 4 brackets and the clevis pins. My question is do the rails just bolt to the bed or do they go down through the frame also. This a used hitch and it does...
Anyone had a spare tire mounted underneath the Bighorns drag when pulling through a dip or low spot in the road ?? Sure looks like they would drag in certain situations. Thanking you in advance for any feedback!!
Jeff
Definetly should be an option !!
I will be ordering my new Bighorn this week. I would pay $500 for the upgrade to Goodyear or Michelin's. I definetly will not be trusting the "made in China" tires supplied by Heartland. Kinda makes me upset just thinkin about this subject !!
Jeff:mad:
Thanks Snuffy, I thought about using the tripod stand and I didn't think about the trees. The tripod is definetly cheaper!! I guess you need a compass for the direction and I assume the tripod has a azimuth calibration?? Can you elaborate on the setup?? I appreciate the help.
Jeff
