Edge 22 vs Gulfstream Visa 23

The Gulfstream VISA 23BHD has bunks. The Edge is no longer in production. I have the VISA 23RBK and have been pleased with it so far with no dragging problems. As far as the bias tires, replace them with radials when the time comes. Not a deal breaker one way or the other for us. We had ours...

    Just ordered the 185!

We pulled our MPG186 with a Frontier. 13.5 MPG at 60 mph. I don't think there are very many 186 models floating around as they were changed to the 183 models early on in production.

Heard a rumor that 2012 will be the last year for the MPG?

I tried to trade my MPG 186 in on a Edge M-22 but my dealer and I could not come to terms to my bank account liking. In our case, nothing was wrong with the MPG, except the shortage of space for four people. Had I purchased the MPG with the full time bed, we would probably still have it...

Heard a rumor that 2012 will be the last year for the MPG?

Go to Heartlands web site and look at the different trailers. The Edge and MPG are no longer listed under their products. I also heard on the R-Pod forum that both had been discontinued.

    Quality Control on MPG's

Be glad it's not a R-Pod. They are recalling 3 years worth, starting in Canada for lights. The recall will involve the installation of the amber and red lights on the fenders and the three lights across the back of the trailer, all present on the MPG. I received all this info on the R-Pod forum...

    Experience with wholesalers

We bought from a local dealer. Cheaper to buy in Ohio, however, when the freight bill was deleted, my local dealer was a little cheaper. Going to Ohio from Texas would have been cheaper to purchase, but I still would have had to pay the freight bill, only in this case, I was also the shipper. My...

    Experience with wholesalers

I just bought a new T/T last month. My local dealer sold it to us for $500 less than a wholesaler in Ohio and I did not have to drive 1,000 miles to pick it up. Go to Heartlands web site and look for dealers. Type in your zip code and it will tell you your nearest dealer. Service AFTER the sale...

    Moving on.

As best as I could see with a weak flashlight, the tires are 205/75-14 bias tubeless tires. The max payload is 1760 lbs. Multiply that by four and I have a total capacity of 7040 lbs. The trailer weighs 3502 lbs, so the tires are at 50% of their full working load. This is like drag racing. Good...

    Moving on.

Today we traded our MPG 186 in on a 23RBK Gulfstream Visa. The MPG is a good little trailer, but it is just that, little. Wanted to move up to the Edge M-22, but our Heartland dealer was so far off on what they offered us in trade-in there was no way we could go with the Edge. $4,000 is a lot of...

    The Dome Setup

MCOTA, could you please supply some info about where you purchased your dome. I saw one on the Dometic web site but do not know if it is the same as the one you have.Right now I use the track to hold a 12 ft rope light for night use. Tent wise all we have is a 10 X 10 Easy Up. We like it because...

MPG would be even more desirable if...

The 186 is the same as the older 183's. All they did was change the number from 186 to 183. The newer 183's have the lift up bottom bunk that one can store a bike or other large object. The 186 bunks do not lift. But yes, the T.V. is mounted in the area that sticks out between the fridge and the...

MPG would be even more desirable if...

I don't think it's too bad where it is. Wait untill you try to listen to it with the air-con on. Next to impossible to hear. If I had a decent way to run the wires, I would add front speakers.

    Quality Control on MPG's

We have the 186, which is now the 183. New, the slide did not retract fully, flopping around as we drove down the road. The hose that went from the sink to the gray water tank was too short. Every time we closed the slide it would pop the hose off. The outside trim on each side had to be...

    New T/V

Got a shock reading the owners manual today. We thought we were getting a 9500 lbs tow capacity. Since it did not come with a tow package, a hitch was added, it will only tow 7,400 lbs. Thats only 1,100 more than the Frontier. Bummer. Don't know what we will need to add to boost the tow rate...

    New T/V

We purchased a new T/V yesterday. A left over 2010 Nissan Titian crew cab. I really did not care too much for the fire engine red paint job, but for the $7,500 discount we received, I would have taken it painted like a zebra. It did not come with the factory hitch so they threw one of those in...

Towing the MPG 185 or 181

I do not see why not. I tow our 183 with a Nissan Frontier rated at 261 HP with a tow capacity of 6,300 LBS. How much can the Jeep tow, according to the owners manual? That should be your guiding light.

    Propane Heater Placement

UP-Date. Here in Houston for the last few days it has been in the high 20's at night. I placed a small electric heater in our 183 and placed the heat selector on 1,000. It is a three position switch listing 500, 1,000 and 1500. Checked it this morning when it was 27 deg outside and the...

    mpg road clearance

We have a 186/183 which we pull with a Nissan Frontier. Went from Houston TX to Pigeon Forge TN and back last year and no problems with clearance. I haven't seen a need for a riser kit, that is unless you plan to run a bunch of pig trails. It has more clearance than the R-Pod. Just make sure...

    Tire lug nuts

I use a 13/16 deep well, thin wall socket for a half inch drive along with a long handle breaker bar. If it is not a THIN-WALL socket it will not go onto the lug nut. I also carry a 9/16 socket so I can lower the spare tire, so don't forget that.

    Jacks, sway control

One of the hardest problems (for me) is to get the two jacks in the rear the same. Several times I have set up only to look later and one of the pads will be off the ground a little. I have mostly solved that problem by using my 18 volt Black and Decker impact driver/drill to lower and raise the...

    Stablizer Jacks

I am not sure about ordering them, but your dealer will be happy to install them for you, for a price of course. I also suggest you get a vent cover installed over the vent in the bath. Not too expensive for that mod.

MPG 181 design ideas from new owner.

Please keep us updated on the awning process. I think the shape of the MPG hinders the awning placement more than anything else. A reach up, pull it down, you have instant shade, has to be a better seller than putting up a tent. A lot would depend on whether you are traveling or just setting...

The switch on the monitor panel that is marked heater in the gas hot water switch. Also located somewhere inside the camper is another switch, red, that look like a light switch. So, Where Do You Put Your Clothes in an MPG?

We use the travel bags that has a lift up handle and wheels. Put the clothes in the back of the pick-up as it has a lockable cover over it. We only need to open the bag once a day so it is no big deal. The pantry holds towels on the top and food and other junk on the lower three. Most of the...

    11 days on the road........

Kool! Our 11 day trip was right at 2,000 miles and we average about 13.5 with our Nissan Frontier. We just don't have the power you do with your GMC. MPG's aren't that big, but we spent very little time in it other than sleeping. The wife did most of the cooking outside. The down side to the...

    Propane Heater Placement

I ran mine about 5 minutes and that is about the time it took for the whole trailer to warm up. You must keep one thing in mind with the heat and air con. You are not heating or cooling a very large space. If it is not freezing cold, heat the trailer with the heater and then maintain with a...
