Trying to jack up the RV by the frame on the side of the road safely is going to be very difficult. There is a lot of concern that jacking up the RV by the axle could lead to bent axles, which is fair. I opted to buy a kit from Safety Jack, which includes a cradle attachment for the axle that just sits on top of the ram for the bottle jack. I am able to place the cradle directly between the U-bolts, and gently lift the axle just enough to spin the tire. I see no difference between this and when driving over leveling blocks. I have been on the side of the road several times changing the tire on the RV, and would not have been comfortable trying to jack up the RV by the frame given either very unlevel ground or soft soil.
