Big Horn 3875FB Black Tank Flush

I have the new 2015 Big Horn 3875FB and having trouble with the black tank flush. Do I have 2 black tanks. Also in the universal docking station I have two hook ups. Is one black tank and one fresh water. I know I have to hook the hose up but to both or just one??? Not marked very well.

Hi LMcCullagh,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

With the 3875FB you should have 2 black tanks, 1 for 1/2 bath and 1 for up stairs full bath. I personally never hook up the black tank flush untill I am dumping and then never talk to anyone or get distracted while flushing the black tank.,,, It doesn't take long to make one over flow. I do not know if the 1/2 bath has a tank flusher on it.. I'm sure some of our other members will jump in soon with an answer for you.

There's usually a diagram of everything in the UDC attached to the cargo door or the wall of the UDC.

There's a city water connection that works with the 4-way Anderson Valve and there's a separate black tank flush connection. You only need to hook a hose to the black tank flush connection when you want to flush the tank.

Dans advise is correct. If you do not have these 3 things......get them.

A clear plastic elbow that goes on the drain pipe. You will never know if the black is clean unless you see clear water running.

A Valterra gate valve on the drain pipe and leave it there. A leaky black tank valve is not a pleasant thing when you remove the drain pipe cap.

A good 50# water pressure regulator. Ya never know what water pressure a CG has. Too much pressure to the black tank "spritzer" can cause real problems. Dont ask.

my 3875FB came from the factory with only one black tank clean out on it..... I have 2 black tanks..... the one clean out doesnt feed both.... i had to take my unit back to the factory for other issues but i had the factory install a second black clean out at no change.... some unit have one clean out while others have two... 3875FB all have two black tanks....

Bob,
I don't want to get too "personal", but I sometimes may not use a water pressure regulator when flushing out the black tank. I guess this will put too much pressure on the plumbing that's between the hook-up & black tank? Guess I must have had a "blonde moment" & I'm not even blonde!

Glad you got them to do this for you... My 3875FB also came with just one clean out and it's a royal pain to get my rear bathroom black tank clean. Overall very happy with the rig.

I think that someone made a mistake in not having a black tank flush in both black tanks. Bet the newer ones coming off the line will have two.......Don

Yep, I have a 2014 and is has black tank flushes for both black tanks.
I can't figure out how to get the bleach water into the fresh water tank to sanitize it periodically. There's no water filler port for the fresh water tank.

Hi nansrvplace1,

Welcome to the posting side of the Heartland Owners Forum.

I think some folks will just take an empty water hose and fill or pour the bleach water in the hose and then hook it up and turn the water on. That will flush the bleach into the tank as long as you have your valve set correctly before you add the bleach.

Dave here, Have a new 3875 that has been out a couple times. I have two black tanks and two places for flushing. Likes others just one out. First time flushing went ok for one tank, second one water started coming out the bottom of basement area. Not funny for those that are laughing. Ended up emptying the basement, storage area and taking apart, your black tanks are in front right behind the compartment in front. after cleaning out, hooked up hose again and turned on and one of the water lines was not crimped with a pex tool. The clamp was just there. Dryed out, crimped and redid everything. It is all there. A mess too underneath. Have a few others for another time. Regards. Dave
