Camco Brown "Revolution" Sewer Hose Fell Apart

Gang:
I thought I would give a heads up on my "fortunate" failure of my brown Camco sewer hose. Fortunate in the respect that I discovered that the plastic had fallen apart, and I had open spirals of metal spring, when I got the hose out of my "sewer stuff" tote to do a dump; not by having the hose fail DURING a dump. I would guess the hose is as old as I have owned the rig (6 years), and I don't know if storing the hose in an airtight tote made the problem any worse. Luckily, I have had a long, 2 section sewer hose, since a stay at a park with sewer connections too far from my trailer outlet long ago. I was able to remove the defective section and just use the rest.

I will also replace the other brown section just to be prudent, and its always nice to have a spare part when your are RVing!

The sturdiest hose I've found is the RhinoFlex. Holds its shape and collapses tightly for storage. Fortunately, the older BH's like mine came with a sewer storage compartment above the outlet. Room enough for my 15 ft. main hose and a 10 ft. extension.

Moved on to the next thing...
I have two 10-foot sections of the brown Camco sewer hose . . . bought it three and a half years ago when we bought our previous Heartland Trail Runner.

And like an old Timex . . . it keeps on ticking!

I also have this red sewer hose setup from Camping World:

Much more expensive than the brown Camco and very nice to use, but it doesn't fit in the rear bumper storage spot (end fittings too big) like the Camco hose does.

Plus, I think that I may have a couple of pin holes in one of them as I've found them wet when putting them up!

This past summer I used the brown hose exclusively and keep it the red as backup, or when I need longer than 20 feet to reach the sewer hookup (which happens frequently up in the mountains).

We have the Rhino Flex, but keep it as a back up.. I like the blue hose we got at Camping World; it's easier to work with and store than the Rhino. I would think the failures are eminent on any hose, dragging them on the ground wears the plastic coating. I've also had mine stepped on a time or two which doesn't help.

I consider sewer hoses one of the "time" replacement items. I replace it once a year whether it needs it or not.

You do not want a sewer hose failure.

Below is my favorite. I've been using the Wastemaster and Polychute variant since 2008. My Amazon shopping link.
What I like:
- No connection leaks - ever!
- Long hose with high-compression ratio (for storage)
- Built-in sight glass
- Plastic helical coil spring on the "outside" of the hose - minimizing abrasion related issues with hose

Jim:
That hose assembly is impressive, but is there any way to make it NOT permanently attached (i.e. twist-on connections)???
