If your combination is SRW then your truck will not safely tow a 4200. I say this because I believe DRW only comes in a long box.

Ditto, ditto. Empty, she's over 16K. Research the SRW and think 20k. Then go buy that Dually!

I am asking because the truck that delivered the 4200 to me was a 2008 Silverado 2500 Crew Cab SRW with 670,000 miles on it. It did have a programmer and 5000lb. air bags. The driver claimed he's towed these kind of units nationwide without issues..

Could be.. completely empty. Most 4200's are around 16k shipped. Add batteries, propane, food, water, gear, etc. no way he would be legal using the trailer for personal use. The programmer and bags are a moot point with GVWR. His vehicle only has the match the little yellow sticker on the inside of the door for delivery. Sure doesn't mean it's smart! JMO.

Ditto, the driver may have towed the trailer and others comparable before but it doesn't mean it is safe or legal.

Valid points.. I personally am towing with a '14 F450. I found it odd when I saw the combo used to deliver, so I asked. Thanks for the input..

Howdy!

I've been there and done that. Our second 5er was dry weigt 16,000. Once we loaded it and I tried to tow it with a 2500 Dodge deiesel I quickly found out I could tow it but I could not stop it. I agree with everyone else. You simply don't have enough truck to tow a 4200. I seen it done with heavier 5ers but its a big risk you are taking. Check my signature I don't even use a 3/4 ton duelly I went straight to a MDT for towing fulltime. Good luck in your travels friend.

Well................16k is a little on the light side... My truck is a 06 f350 swr and weighed just under 8k.. Went to the scales and came in at 26062, so with that being said a 4200 is right around 18k!! And to do this with a 2500 , I understand its newer than mine, is crazy... Im an idiot for doing it with a 350 SRW. Granted I only have 2 trips this yr and they are all local, still not good and an upgrade is in the near future but to do this all over the country is just.....well........crazy. Most of the guys I travel with have short boxes with sliders but they rarely use the slider. And only in extreme, tight lots will they use it.. I use the superglide.

This person is asking for big trouble using his truck for towing anything over 14K. Everything will be great for him until he hurts someone or worse. At least the OP has enough truck.
