Front Landing Gear.

I am thinking of getting another front jack put on my 3055. Something like Venture or maybe some one else... anyone have any recommendations? Think I want to go to individual jacks,, not wanting to go to hydraulic (to expensive). Just want something a little faster and maybe more power.

Any recommendations as to service while here in Goshen for the rally?

I just recently installed the second motor and new leg by Venture on my 3055. Cost for parts was around $350. What a difference. This setup doesn't even break a sweat lifting the front. They installed the second switch next to the original first switch, but had to mount them below the original location in a new box (one switch will not operate both motors without burning out). I am very pleased with the results.

Jim, I've heard rumors that Rieco-Titan will make a front only kit like the Ground Control system. If they do, I'd certainly look into them. The fronts were an easy install and with a direct drive motor and no external gearbox, far fewer parts to break. Mine are very fast, much faster than my original Venture unit. You might give Sonny at Rieco a call, as that's where I heard the rumor. :)

I have been looking into front jack replacement units also, I discovered a "bone yard" of damaged campers in east Houston a while back and looked thru the fifth wheel landing gear selection. I was told that the Venture units were taken pretty quickly as they have a reputation as being pretty tough and easy to mount in a lot of applications so the oil field guys snap them up pretty quickly.

Has anybody actually weighed the individual landing gear legs to see what the true weight is? Would your pin weight divided by 2 be a close estimate, or would the distance from the axels make the weight less as it is closer?

Couple things to consider. Venture make two different lengths of landing gear. The 2008 and later 3055 takes the LONGER of the two lenghts. On the frame, there are mounting tabs. Whatever you get, make sure that they fit the verticle dimentions of the tabs. There are 3 or 4 different companies that make electric landing gear. Get the two motor system from whoever. On my 3055, I added the second motor and placed the second switch inside the existing switch box. There is a post on this forum for doing this. It makes for a one hand operation. I also added the ability to grease the internal jack screw. Lack of lube on this screw is the root of almost all the problems. I have a post somewhere on how to do this. Ultra Fab and Atwood are a couple of other manufacturers. Check them out.

Found that does a good job of describing the switch to dual motors. I really liked the idea of modifying the switches so that they fit into a single compartment. The other option for the switches would be to find a heavy duty / industrial type switch that could handle the draw of two motors.
