Heat not working / water on top of furnace

We have a 2012 Big County. Our heater is not working. I hear the click when you turn the therm to heat, then nothing. My husband looked at the furnace outside and there was water on top of it. He dried it off and turned the switch off then back on and it started working. Next day it was not working, again with the water on top. dried it out and it worked again. Now tonight it is not working. After reading other post I am thinking the board might need to be replaced. How do I know what board to order? We looked under to see if we could see where the water was coming from and could not find anything leaking. Has anyone else had a problem with the top of the furnace getting water on the board?

Hi pearl,

Welcome to the posting side of the Heartland Owners Forum.

You do not have posted as to the model of Big Country you have, but if your getting water on top of the heater you need to find out where the water is coming from. I am thinking most heaters are probably below the bath area,,, so I would remove the wall in the storage area and find the leak. If the heater has been wet it is very possible you may need the control board, but you have got to find the water leak first. Check the shower drain for leaks also. You will need the model of your heater to order parts or call Heartland customer service and have your VIN handy. They should be able to get the right part for you.

Let us know what you find.

I had the exact problem with my Big Horn, its pretty easy to access the board and remove it. You need your furnace make, model and serial number, my dealer looked it up and had 2 in stock.

I put it back together and left off that piece of light cardboard that actually got wet and made contact with the circuit board and caused my issue.

Good luck, it is a fairly easy repair, however the board was over $ 100.

I second the thought about the water ontop of the waterheater. The first thing that you should do is find out where the water is coming from.

Thanks for the info on the board. Going to try and get one today. We tried turning the faucets on and letting them run but did not see any leaking. Maybe it coming in from outside somehow. It had rained both times there was water.
