Heater Does Not Stop/Bedroom question

I hate to bother anyone, but I need a little help. My heater comes on but does not stop, it goes from hot to cold air and keeps on going. I have to manually stop the heater. Instead, I have had to sleep in the living area with the fireplace on and a small space heater. Heat does not seem to come out in the bedroom.

Second question, I found out that my red regulator on the passenger side was leaking, lost a whole tank of propane. Where can I find a new one, it is red. No one seems to carry.

Next, when I bought the camper, the living room fan pull chain came out. Called a service guy, never fixed.

My microwave fan does not work, was told it was under warranty, still do not have a new one.

Sure could use some answers, taking it in is not an option right now.

Need a good reputable service person for South of San Antonio.

Thanks,
Ingrid

Hi Ingrid,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum. You're not bothering anyone. There's a great bunch of friendly and helpful people here who are quick to reach out with help.

If your Bighorn is under warranty, call Heartland Customer Service at 877-262-8032 / 574-262-8030. Have your VIN # ready. Ask if they have any recommendations for mobile servicers who are authorized to handle warranty claims. You'd have to pay the travel time part of the service call, but sometimes that's less than the cost of hauling the trailer to a dealer.

RV resorts often have recommendations on mobile servicers. If you call some near you, you'll probably get some leads. Again, if under warranty, get prior approval from Heartland to use a specific servicer.

We also have a lot of owners in Texas. I'm sure they'll give you some recommendations for a service person south of San Antonio.

Try Dan's suggestions first, but the heater problem may be a defective thermostat. I get the impression you bought the trailer used, so it might still have the old Dometic analog thermostat in it, correct? Many of us have replaced that with a digital one. A fairly simple DIY job and relatively inexpensive if you're a little bit handy, and there are instructions available on line or from those of us who've done it.

The chain pull switch on the ceiling fan may be a bit more involved. If the chain has pulled completely out of the switch, the fan housing will need to be opened up to access it. It's possible that a new chain (or what's left of the old one) can be reinserted, or you may need to get a whole new switch. Best source would be a lighting store that sells ceiling fans.

I'm not sure what a "red" propane regulator is all about since my rig only has the auto-transfer model on one side and both tanks are in the same cabinet. Again, replacing it would not be overly difficult if you're a bit handy and are willing to tackle it. A replacement regulator should be available from an RV Parts store, or a dealer store. There should be some manufacturer's info on the regulator, if so, try contacting them.

Can't tell you much about the microwave fan, though. Replacing just the fan is probably possible if you identify the correct one from the manufacturer's manual or website. They may even sell parts, or tell you where to get it. Again, DIY depends on your skill level.

Again, though, try going the Heartland route for help in getting a mobile service tech to come to you.

Try Quick2Fix. I know he is in the San Antonio area. I have had good service from him and can do Heartland Warranty work. He did some for us. What I liked about him was he was professional, quick, and showed up when he said he would. Then called when he got the parts and came back and did the repair. www.quick2fixrv.com/
