Ice Maker Water Feed Line Freeze Warning

If your refrigerator is in a slide out, as most are, the water feed line to the ice maker is routed under the slide out floor. It's exposed to outside air and will freeze as soon as temps drop below freezing.

Even if you're a full-timer located in Florida or Texas, if temps drop below freezing, as they occasionally do, to prevent damage to the poly tubing, you must evacuate the water from that line and shut off the water feed.

On ours the ice maker line ran outside under the slide where a T-drain valve was. Froze and cracked last year in TX. Found out when it thawed and the neighbor pointed out all the water I was leaking outside. Simple fix was to cut the outside lines and move the connection inside behind the drawer below the oven. Since we are full-timers I did not valve it but that would be just as easy.

On ours the water line is stubbed off of the kitchen plumbing and runs inside the slide under the bottom drawer of the counter.
