Installed larger draws in bedroom closet

Always looking for more storage I noticed that in the closet drawers seemed very small. I removed them and found a ton of room behind them so I decided to replace them with 22” deep drawers. My guess it is a cost and weight issue for HL.

I measured and ordered the new drawers from Barker Door (www.barkerdoor.com) which is up in the northwest. Excellent product but it was 3+ weeks in arriving. They are ½” wood rather than the 3/8” of the standard drawers.

I also ordered new glides from them since the boxes were so much bigger. The glides have the feature that once you get within ½ “of closing they close themselves. This is nice in use but also when moving as this keeps the draws closed too. Because the drawers were thicker material there was not enough room for the standard “keep closed” mechanism that HL uses.

I also reinforced the framework that held the glides. Not only where the drawers physically longer but also they (and their new contents) were heavier than the original design so I felt things needed to be beefed up.

Before I removed the drawer front I simply traced out with a black magic marker the outline of where the drawer was supposed to fit….made putting the fronts back on much easier.

The new drawer boxes, hardware, and shipping totaled $138.00.

Those turned out great! I can't let my wife see your post or I'll have another project. You can never have too much storage space.

I did the same thing on my last 5'er. I will probably do that on my Landmark once it gets back from the dealer. I like the idea of buying the drawers premade. A bit more expensive but a whole lot less trouble.
