Need a little help with our Cyclone please

Loving the new rig so far but now its time for a couple of questions

1) What is the best way to get bleach into the freshwater tank to sanitize?
2) was sitting in the garage the other day with the screen down, breeze was blowing pretty good and i noticed the screen not attached to anything on the sides. Didn't notice it before so did I break something?

Also for all of you coming to the rally in Copake, be aware that the great State of NY has increased tolls. When i brought the camper home it was almost $13 from Newburgh ( Route 84) to Catskill (Route 23) and then $12.50 to crosss the Rip Van Winkle. Trying to avoid some of the shock like I got.

Thanks in advance.

Re: a little help please

To answer the bleach question, I mix some bleach and water and pour it into the gravity fill line, followed with a half tank fill of water. I use the pump to circulate the bleach/water mixture into lines.

Not sure how to do it with the new Anderson valve set up, if that is what your new coach has installed for the fresh water pressure fill.

Cannot answer the Cyclone garage screen question.

Hope this helps.

The screen is not attached at the sides - it just rests inside the channels.

Re: a little help please

I assume you have the new universal docking center (UDC). There is only a city water connection that you can switch over to fill the holding tank. I would put the bleach in my water filter canister without the filter cartridge. Then connect to the city water supply, switch to the fresh water tank and turn on the water. The water and bleach should go into your tank. I don't know of another way to do it at this point. Maybe others know another method.

I poured diluted bleach into the garden hose, but it obviously won't hold much, then attached it to the spiget and turned it on. By diluting I had to stop and refill the hose a couple times. If I do it again I won't dilute it and take my chances. Then I filled it the rest of the way with city water.

Re: a little help please

I just pour it full strength into the garden hose. Hook it up and let it fill the system. Run both sinks and the shower for a minute, let stand a beer to two and flush it out. When flushed I put 3 oz of lemon juice in the hose and fill up the city lines, run sinks again, and flush. Kills the bleach taste and we have a very slight lemon taste in the water for the first two days or so. My buddy who has a camper in the water now up to a 40 footer taught me the lemon deal, as the woman would go off on the bleach.... nuff said.

Re: a little help please

I mix 1 2/3 cup of bleach with 5 gallons of water, this is the correct formula for approximately 100 gallons of water.
i use the winterizing input to pump this into the fresh water tanks. Then fill the tanks, run the faucets until you smell the chlorine and let sit for 4 hours. I do not run it through the hot water heater.

Drain and flush with fresh water - a optional to add the lemon juice.

I put the amount of bleach I want in the garden hose. Drain the hose first, then reconnect and you'll have plenty of room for the bleach needed for your tank size.

Re: a little help please

Look for a "Transmission Funnel" in your auto parts store. It's a funnel with a flexible hose attached. About $5.

Re: a little help please

For those interested in calculating numbers (like me) - a 5/8 garden hose 25 feet long holds about 6 cups. Using Duanes ratios of 1&2/3 cup bleach to 5 gallons water, add about 1&2/3 cup bleach to make 6 cups solution and pour into 25 ft garden hose using Rick's tranny funnel idea. Or just add about 2 cups straight bleach to garden hose and fill 100 gal tank.

Then connect to Anderson valve and water spigot, and fill 100 gallon tank. Circulate to fills lines and taps, let sit and drain. Should take about the time to drink a six pack of beer. Thanks John! (miller0758).

Isn't it great how good ideas are created by many inputs......;)

Re: a little help please

Use a Coke 2 liter bottle for the bleach. It fits inside the freshwater tank hole.

The screen isn't attached to anything on the sides of ours either. It just lies inside that track.

I think I need to expand on this a bit. 1 & 2/3 cup is the correct amount for 100 gallons of storage. I just mix it in with 5 gallons before adding it to the tank.

The formula is 1/4 cup bleach for each 15 gallons of storage.

100/15=6.66666
6.66666 x .25 (1/4 cup) = 1.66666 or 1 2/3 cups for 100 gallons

This is the formula in the Cyclone owners manual and is also frequently listed around the net.

Re: a little help please

shouldn't you let the lemon juice stand a beer or two in the lines before you run the sinks again? Perhaps you should only run one sink, have another, then run the second. Just making sure you don't forget any steps.

Re: a little help please

Brian, you forgot the beer! That was part of the input from post #7

Oopps - I'll go back and edit.... Guess I already had one too many while I was measuring, pouring cups of water into my garden hose, with my tranny funnel.....lol.

Hi Duane, Sorry, did not mean to add confusion to your post - thanks for the clarification.

Re: a little help please

Guess you just have to be careful not to have too many and pour the beer in the hose and drink the water.

Anyway, thanks a lot guys, just reading some people were pouring or dumping the bleach in had me confused.

Anyway, thanks a lot guys, just reading some people were pouring or dumping the bleach in had me confused.

The older gravity fill fresh water systems made it possible to "dump" chlorine into the fresh water tank.

The newer pressure fill water systems (Link to Anderson Valve thread) requires a different approach (pouring bleach into garden hose, etc)

Sorry for the confusion.

No problem Brian - just wanted the less fortunate folks who don't have Cyclones and less tankage to overdo it.
