Picked up the Oshkosh

We took delivery of the 2018 Oshkosh today. ExploreUSA in Alvin. It went OK considering the size (big) and their reputation (bad). An issue with the steps. The bottom step wouldn't unfold. The nuts were tack welded and had some corrosion. They spun the nuts with an impact and got them freed up. I'll probably grind the nuts off and replace with SS bolts and SS nylock nuts. Otherwise it seems good to go. I stopped by a CAT scale on the way home and scaled it. It had a bit of water in the fresh tank, but I haven't done the math yet. Tows good. Ram pulls it good. Pulled through some rain and construction on Beltway 8. No issues.
I was sweating bullets about backing it up my "boat ramp" driveway. I got Betty Lou to get out and watch the ladder and levelers. No problem. Cleared it better than the little Montana. So, I'm happy happy happy.
I think we'll run over to Coushatta Casino Monday for a shakedown cruise. Maybe go on to Riverview RV in Vidalia and watch the tugs on the Mississippi River. Sip some cheap bourbon and kick back. We have reservations in Charleston at James Island and then it's the outlaws sprint car national finals in Charlotte in early November.
I'll join up the owners group and post some pics tomorrow when I get unwound.

Does your model have all the cabinetry in the bedroom or is the newer version with the silly chair and window. I still can't believe the newer models did away with the usable drawers and cabinets. The design change had to be done by someone who doesn't want to fulltime in an RV. I want to upgrade to the Oshkosh if I can find it like before. Enjoy your new rig and hope to meet you down the road.

It has the cabinets, thankfully. I don't understand it either. They must have saved $12 replacing the cabinets with a Chinese chair. We don't full time in it and never intend to, but the Oshkosh needs more space for linens, girls stuff, etc.

We have been full timing in our Oshkosh for almost two years now. I’m surprised to hear you feel you need more room, especially not full timing. We have more then enough room for everything. Keep in mind my wife was and is an anal organizational nut. So she had to shift her thought process from a sticks and bricks to now living in a movable home. Most of our extra linens and towels are under the bed. She owns the cabinets next to the bath room door, while I get 2 of the dresser drawers. We continue to purge items we find we rarely use.

Consider yourself a lucky man RickL! My wife does not throw anything away. I go get the mail just so I can throw the junk mail away before it gets in the house. But then I have a tendency to "overstock" myself. I'm reloading the camping stuff today. I found 5 bags of charcoal, 4 propane bottles, and 5 chairs for the 2 of us. I had a ammo can full of basic tools, but just bought a Harbor Freight tool set. I changed out the water filter this morning, bought 2. You never know. LOL Dang at where they put that filter. I might do some changes to that plywood wall. And it looked like someone discharged a fire extinguisher under there. I guess it is dust from drilling access holes.
I was referring to the Oshkosh with the chair could use more space. I wasn't too clear.

We have been full timing in our Oshkosh for almost two years and have had very good luck. Any problems that we have had were taken care of by our great dealer and we are very happy with it.

Just fYI, we have rallies coming up in Durant Ok., Athens Tx. and Kerrville Tx. in October, so if you have time to come to one (all) of them, join the club and COME ON DOWN! You'll make lots of new friends and have a great time.

I do need to join the club and watch the rally schedule.

Leave out Sunday and head to wherever. You won't regret it. Jim Belleti will be there to represent Heartland, I guess. He's great folks.

Look at the top bar and select events. Shcrol down to "Heartland Chapter Rally" and look for "HCR: TX". There are two. One in Athens and one in Kerrville. You are welcome to attend any rally that is posted in any state. Some rallies fill up fast so sign up as soon as you know you want to attend. Click on the rally you want to attend and the information is in it. Reply that you want to attend.
