Hi Wallace,
There's not many. I stayed at RVacation in Selma for 2 years, (long story...) The park is very nice and very clean. They have all the basic amenities, including wifi. They are more of an overnight/short-term park, located right off I-95. (www.rvacation.us). Selma/Smithfield is about 25 miles Southeast of Raleigh, at I-95 and I-70.

Selma has quite a few antique shops, but won't offer too many days of vacation fun for your family.

If you decide to stop in, say hello to Tony and Erin for us.

Wallace,

If you use one of the Map programs such as Yahoo Maps ( http://maps.yahoo.com/ )or Google Maps ( http://maps.google.com/ )

By searching for Campgrounds once you've selected the area you are interested in being... you should see several listed. Be sure to have the map expanded a bit bigger with the target area in the center.

William B. Umstead State Park is one. ( http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/wium/main.php )
This State Park might be closed this time of year. Check with the park for their current services.

Birchwood RV Park is also listed, located Durham NC. ( http://birchwoodrv.com/index.htm )

Good Luck !

There is a good website where you can find the campgrounds at a given location along with reviews by people who have stayed there. The site is: http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ I also have a software package from the Trailer Life folks called the Trailer Life Directory Campground Navigator. It will allow you to find campground around any place, rates and describes them and allows you to trip route anywhere in the country. Very useful.

Wallace, when are you planning on going? The reason I ask is Lake Jordan and Falls Lake are great and are state parks, but I don't think they are going to open back up until March. Stay away from Birchwood in Durham, there is a reason there is only one picture of this park on the web! It is a dump! First time out of all my years camping I made sure all my outside storage doors were locked and did not set up my satellite. We only stayed there only 2 nights.

Sadly not a lot of campgrounds in the area with lots of amenities. Jordan lake in apex area is nice. Crosswinds SRA is open and a nice place. The only bad part is the gate is locked early.

You can also check out Spring Hill RV Park. It's where we call our full time home base. The management is always very helpful. While this is an old house trailer park that is slowly being converted, it is by far more RV's than house trailers and all the residents are quite friendly.

Rates seem to be very reasonable and the park is VERY quiet. A bit of a drive into downtown Raleigh, so may not be exactly what your looking for.

Hope this helps...

We need to be there Feb 22 I am attending a 2 day meeting so no need for amenities. Shoot I don't even need hook ups.
Once I'm done with the meetings we are off to the sunshine state!
