San Antonio camp grounds

I need to make a trip to Lackland AFB at the end of September for our son's graduation from basic training. Due to other issues we will not be taking the fifth wheel but flying in and renting a car. Does anyone know of a nice campground that has the cottages or cabins for rent that is close to the base? We just can not drive down because our other son would be missing too much school. Thanks.

HI John,

About the only thing I can find in San Antonio area is the KOA. They say they have cabins, but you bring your own linens. You might check them out. Not to close to Lackland but almost all freeway over to the base.

Can't think of anyplace else,, or see anything close on google.

The KOA is a nice park. We've stayed there twice.

I would give them a call. I think the manager is a Heartland Owner and club member??,, but if you tell them your flying in and why, they might be able to furnish linens.

We spent a week at Blazing Star RV Resort. It is a full service RV park with many cottages. It is also on the military side of town, right by sea world. http://www.sunrvresorts.com/Community/BST.aspx Many full timers and many just passing through. The cottages looked very nice... kind of like small trailer houses, but decked and fully skirted. We stayed on the front row and there were at least 8 or so right behind us. The park is close to 1604, so a bit of road noise if you are sitting outside but not too bad. It was too hot for us to spend anytime outside. There are all kinds of nearby shopping for sporting goods, food and groceries. It will be a fair drive from the airport... probably about 20 miles around 410 and then 151 back over to the connector road to 1604, but we did San Marcos, Kerville, Airport area shopping mall as well as New Braunfels from the RV park and had no trouble with traffic or ease of getting around my favorite city in the greatest state in the union.

I will say one thing, the KOA is near a of industrial and older/low-income neighborhoods, but it is fairly close to downtown and the river walk.
