Slide Awning Package

I have mixed feelings about slide toppers. I had them on my last trailer and found them very noisy on windy days. Scared the heck out of my Maltese+****zu dogs. The dealer actually talked me out of them this time. As long as you take care to check the toppers before bringing in the slide when parked under trees he said your good.

We've had them on the last two rigs now.
I guess they can be noisy in the wind, but we don't notice it anymore. Kinda like living next to the railroad tracks.
Will have them on the next rig.

Peace

I was going to have one installed on our trailer . . . until that microburst wind blew through St. Vrain State Park near Longmont, Colorado, and ripped to shreds almost every single awning and slide topper that was opened in the park last July 4th. weekend!

Almost everyone left the next morning, even though the weekend wasn't over.

I have a broom and a stepladder to get the stuff off of the slideout before putting it back in.

Maybe we've been lucky, but we've been through many high wind situations and had no issues. We wouldn't be without them now or on future rigs.

If I never camped in the trees I might not have them, otherwise, a no brainer. I don't like climbing on top of the trailer to clean off the slides.

We found the slide toppers do a great job of keeping rain off the slide tops, too.

Before slide-toppers, we found wet rugs under the slides due to pooling and dripping coming into the trailer (our theory, anyway).
With slide-toppers - All Dry!

We also tend to park under evergreens. I'd hate to have to sweep wet pine needles off the slide before pulling them in.

...note... we're in the Pacific NW, so we have more issues with rain than wind. They do get noisy in high wind. We've had to pull the slides in to sleep in peace a few nights (in 5 years).

We have just spent our 4th year snow birding in our 2012 Bighorn 3070RL, we have the factory installed slide toppers, I like the fact that they keep rain and other stuff off the top of the slide so you can just bring them in without climbing on the roof if need be. But they do require additional cleaning, the tops and underneath, we had pollen on both sides this year. You do have to wipe the tops of the slides after 3 or 4 months due to a build up of dirt and pollen on top of the slides even with the slide out awning. You definitely don't want to bring all the dirt and pollen into the trailer, the gaskets will clean some off but not all. So as you see they aren't completely work free. I use and extendable auto washing mop to clean off the tops of the slides which requires at least a 6 Ft. ladder of some type, I use a 6 ft. stop ladder.
Right now my bedroom slide top bulb gasket has come out of the track it is attached to and of course it is in the center - I haven't figured out how to get to it so that I can put it back into the track, the awning prevents me from doing it from the roof and my arms aren't long enough to get to it from the side. So it appears I have another task to figure out.
I don't know if you can specify the type of awning material but "Sunbrella" brand doesn't fade and lasts forever - if you can afford it
