Slide issues

My husband and I purchased a 2013 3585RL last year and just love our Big Horn. We have an issue with it thought that I was wondering if anyone else has had it also. Last time we went camping we had no issues but when we got home and I started opening the slides to unload the camper I heard a loud bang when the passenger slide started to extend. I stoped, looked and found that some of the facia had popped off. When we looked outside it looked as though the J metal had twisted a little bit and the bottom part of the panel looked as though it had been pryed outward from underneith. However, there was nothing under the trailer or the slide. I did not finish extending the slide. I unloaded the fridge and everything I needed to get out of the trailer and took it to our dealer. When we opened it up there, the issue wouldn't repeat itself.

Has anyone else had this sort of issue? Our dealer cannot figure out what happened and it has caused over $1,300 in damages. I am hoping someone may have suggestions.

Thank you!

Hello Sminkie and welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum. There are a lot of great helpful people here with a lot of information to share.
Let me get this straight, the fascia popped off before the slide was all the way out? If so, it's kind of strange because there would be nothing in the way to hit the fascia.
Which part of the fascia was it? Top, rear vertical or front vertical?
Do you have any pictures of the damage?
I would think that if there was a malfunction on a new trailer that it should be warranty work. But that would depend on when you purchased it last year.
What kind of damage did the dealer repair? That piece of J-wrap is about $60. And the fascia is just nailed on.
There have been a couple of reports of a weld breaking on the 'end cap' of the slide mechanism. Look that over closely.

Peace

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the welcome.

We haven't had the damage repaired yet. It is at the dealership pending warranty approval. I will upload photo's later, I do have several. It was the virtical molding on the outside edge of the slide nearest the rear window that popped completely off, and the vertical fascia in that same area has pryed loose from the slide out. And yes, the slide was not very far out when it came off. I could find nothing for the fasica or the molding to have gotten caught on to cause it to pop off. There is also an upside down L shaped hole in the paneling where the Rocker Recliners ride, but it does not match up with the ricliner. It is all very strange.

Most of the cost of the repairs is labor. I think there is only something like $200 in material costs. I will look at the end cap as you suggested when we go back to the dealership.

Thank you for your feedback!

Mindy
