Torque Wrench

We are set to pick up our new Landmark on Monday and was wondering what torque wrench I needed to buy. I see some have 1/2 inch and some have 3/8 inch. Some even had both. So Which one should I buy? At the moment I only have 3/8 inch sockets but I do plan on buying a 1/2 in set at a later time. If I bought the 1/2 in wrench I could just buy the socket that is needed to torque the lug nuts. So which one should I buy?

Re: Torgue Wrench

I would recommend the 1/2 inch drive it will be needed for the 120 ft lbs needed for the lug nuts. The 3/8 drive does not go high enough for the right torque and is to short for leverage. You will also need a set of deep well 1/2 in. socket set ,so you have one for the lug nuts , axle u - bolts and pin box...........Ken

Re: Torgue Wrench

On the landmark you will have the 9/16" studs and they require 140 FtLb of torque. 1/2 Torque Wrenches are rated for 180FtLbs and will be on the upper range of the rating.
I calibrated mine at 140FtLbs to make sure it was proper for my unit and the F250 that has 14mm Studs also same size as 9/16" studs on the 7000Lbs axles.

Re: Torgue Wrench

Torque wrenches are expensive, or at least good ones are. I found a decent 1/2",150lb tq wrench at Walmart for $20. I figure as long as it is accurate, it's good enough for checking lug nuts periodically. Seems pretty well made for the money.

Home Depot and other stores carry a 250 foot pound that is much longer than the cheaper wrenches. Get the 7/8 impact socket as well and you are set. Remember to set the wrench at zero when not using it. The longer wrenches make a lot more sense when torquing to 150 foot pounds for 9/16 studs.

Snap On is a really good brand but, I don't think you need a $250.00 torque wrench to tighten your lugnuts. Headbolts or studs yes. If you are off even a few pounds either way on a lug it won't make any difference. I would go with a less expensive one. JMHO...Don

No you don't. Close is good, the key thing is equal torque on each stud, and torquing down evenly.
