Waste tank valve

The cable has either broke or has come disconnected from the valve. Fortunately it appears to be in the open position. Right now I do not have time to get to a dealer until I get to my new destination just west of Ft Worth. Any suggestions?

Hi BobDavis1944,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum and to the family. We have a great bunch of folks here with lots of information and all willing to share their knowledge when needed.

If you don't have time to get it repaired now, you might place one of the twist-on valves on your outlet connection. You could use the waste tank, but would not be able to dump the gray tanks until you hookup and dump the black tank. Kinda unusual that a cable comes loose, maybe have something hung in the valve. Have you tried backflushing the tank from the drain side?

Let us know what you find, it may help someone else.

I have one on my kitchen tank that hasn't worked for two years. It's also stuck open. I have a spin-on valve at the connection point for my sewer hose. It's stayed in place for three years, hasn't moved. I just open that when I want to dump. I may never fix that cable...Don

Bob, THIS VALVE is what the other replies are referring to. A good temporary fix and it also helps when I forget to close my greys after being hooked up in one place for a while. The valve is available at most RV dealers on the shelf.

Bob, my cable is not broken however the black tank tends to "leak" a little. The valve Ray has link to is by far the best $20 bucks I have every spent on RV. Every time I untwist that cap and my feet stay dry just makes me smile.

I need to add something here about installing the spin-on or twist-on valve. When you put your valve on,,, have the handle up and towards the rear of the trailer a little... like 10-20 degrees. This is so when you hit those little bumps in the highway it does not jar it enough with the weight of the handle being forward to cause it to come off and go bouncing down the highway... or I guess they bounce a little anyway... I didn't see it,, but just guessing on the bounce... cause I know it will come off. Mine did on the good Oklahoma freeways that you pay to drive on.

Jim, that's what duct tape is for! (No kidding, I duct taped it, cause you guys said it might come off.) ;)

I bought the individual parts and glued the valve on. THe handle to the rear was not a good option for ours and I knew the handle to the front might be an issue. The individual pieces were actually cheaper than the whole "twist lock" package.

The handle on mine is toward the front. I haven't glued it or taped it. It's a pretty snug fit and it hasn't gone anywhere. It's one of the first things I installed so maybe my fitting wasn't yet worn from putting a hose on and off. I originally installed mine after getting the dreaded "shower" because the black tank valve leaked the first time I used the trailer. Now I don't worry if the valves don't close all the way or one is stuck. This valve should be standard equipment on every new unit!..Don
