Exactly what I thought. You go t need much movement to release the cable from the bracket

If the cables are adjusted properly, you can just bump the switch a little to get slack in the cables to remove them from the brackets.

Did you try and put the slide out a little farther. It might release the tension. The cable slides sideways out of the bracket.
