Looks like a great time, but, unfortunately, our plans for then are to be on the road for Alaska. If our plans change, you can count us for Lake George. We will be following this thread, however.

It was in the low 80's and sunny here in Tidewater (VA) today. Back home to NY next week and then time to get winterized.

John.

We are often over in New York State, during our summer travels and maybe we should look up this event! I would love to see everyone and meet some more heartland owners. But the main reason that I would come would be to say that I found a park that topped my highest-paid amount per night.!

Wow and I thought that paying $46 a night was very high!

I am going to go now and look at the resorts amenities to try and understand the nightly fee.

Wow and I thought that paying $46 a night was very high!

Well Dale, It could be worse, it could be "in season" and very much higher. I am sure many of us in the Northeast would pay $46.00 a night with a smile! Rates like that are hard to find in these parts!

The normal rate for the weekend of our Rally is $63 a night !! so we got a discount of $12 off per night . The weekend after our Rally normal price is $77 a night !!! Welcome to Beautiful Lake George and the highest rated park in the area at a great price !!!

We had lunch there with two other Heartland couples and the food was good. It is going to be a buffet dinner. We have not finalized the food selection yet but as soon as we do, we will post the menu. Only 4 months (and a few days) until the rally...can't wait. We are going to have a blast!!! Also working on Saturday nights entertainment, it's gonna be a hoot.

Silly question, but it is a pull through right? I'm really bad a backing up!

No idea, but I'm sure a few Cycloner's will shield you from all the scorers that show up just to help make you nervous

Best place to learn to back up is in an open parking lot, away from the crowd. Get some cones or whatever and first start by making sure you can back straight. It really is not as hard as you think, you just have to think about what you are doing.

And there is no shame in pulling out and going around the block and trying again. Better a bruised ego then a bruised trailer.

And if I forgot to tell you, I would not travel with the ladder installed. That sticks out another 10" or so, and that can get close to some toll booths.

Either use your cell phones or get portable radios. Cell phone are better then the radio since they are duplex (both talk at the same time) and the driver can just leave it on speaker.

Learn simple commands you are both familiar with, mostly STOP.
"rear of trailer needs to go right - rear of trailer needs to go left etc.

Very important to the driver is that the back up person is always visible in the mirror. I prefer the person on my left side. I do not move if I can't see the backup person.

I can pretty much move my trailer where I want by myself, but if I am using a backup, then I don't move if I can't see - period. You will not feel a person between the trailer and a tree until it is too late.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Porkchop
05-08-2012, 09:23 AM
Thanks Duane, will do the practicing the next time we go out (may 20th ish). I was able to do it once in the dealer lot :) I didn't hit anything or run over anything.

We kept the ladder in the garage, but I'm a little worried where to put it once we are loaded with the bikes. I'll send you a PM or something to ask a few more questions non lake george related.

Thanks!

It is a 2.5 hour drive from Lagrangeville....

If that is the Lagrangeville I am thinking of, it is near the Taconic State Parkway, you are not allowed to travel on any NY State Parkway with your truck and trailer (even just your truck is not allowed, any pickup over 5500 pounds empty).

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=taconic%20parkway

http://www.nycroads.com/roads/pkwy_hudson/

I'd suggest you stay on the NY Thruway, I-87 until Newburgh, then cross over. Leaving Larangeville head up to Poughkeepsie and cross back over to I-87.

"If" you had the time, right at that exit are the posers known as Orange County Choppers (you can see it from the highway).
And there is a great motorcycle museum in Newburgh.

Yup that's the place!
I didn't know we couldn't even drive the truck on it! Yikes. I knew we couldn't bring the RV on it, nothing in tow.

Can we do the NJ parkway with the RV?

We went up to LaGrangeville and had our friend help install the hitch. Good thing we didn't get stopped up there (we usually take 87 to 84, but are on the Tatonic for a short period of time.

Yes to the NJ parkway, entire length.
Doesn't affect you as much, but in the area north of Edison their are multiple stone ached bridges. You need to stay in the lanes that are not adjacent to the shoulders. Low clearence on the sides.

Conflicting GPS directions at the 88-90 interchange, which is under construction. There are two exit 25's, before and after the toll booth. Go through the toll booth. Greg said it is a no fee toll.

It was hard to leave Sunday evening. Had to get back to that four letter word on Monday (work) hoping to see you again in Maryland.

Nice to meet Greg's friend and then Beth's friend. Glad you had a good time. P.S. Did you remove the tape that covered "FLEETWOOD", yet?

I did remove the tape. Don't want it to stick permanent. We are grandfathed in as Heartland owns the rights to the name. Some day we may get one.! :D

We just wanted to say a great big THANK YOU to all that attended the NY rally this year. Without you this event would not have been a success. Greg and I had a great time, we can't wait until next year!!

To all the Chapter Leaders and Regional Directors, Thank You so much for all your help. You made our lives a little easier this weekend. Thank you to all the members that help out breaking down base camp, many hands make light work.

Hope to see you all real soon!!

Love from Freckles and Pickles also.

The view of the lower lake from Mount Prospect. Not bad for a cell phone pic.

And we could hear the steam calliope on the Minnie Ha Ha from up here.

Greg took this shot - the lonely Cyclone. Right after he left the park crew lined up all the picnic benches.
One morning while walking the pups I saw the ground crews lining up all the lounge chairs at the upper pool.

This had to be the cleanest park we have ever stayed at. Deb made the comment that if you saw a piece of trash on the ground you almost felt obliged to pick it up.
I did that several times throughout our stay.

Did you know the used blowers on the roofs of the buildings?
That they cut the grass on Monday and Tuesday on the sites?
That even the trails were kept tidy?

I regret not going back to try and record the concert at the pond. I have never heard frogs make that much noise, and they were little buggers to boot. Between the tree frogs and bull frogs, occasional bird and the single mallard, it was quite the symphony..

And the bull frogs really did a good job of teasing Molly.

One again, great choice Beth and Greg!

The kids were wiped out for the ride home - 12 days of rallying finally got to them.

Great pic of the kids Duane! I know they had a good time and they deserve to rest in the back seat for a few hours!

Greg and Beth,

I am a few days late in letting you know what a wonderful job you did on the rally. We really appreciated all your work and want to thank you so much. Obviously, home safe and sound and have Turning Stone in the planner for next. Enjoy the rest of your camping season and keep up the great work.

Sorry it took so long to reply. We just got back from the 9 day vacation to Canada and Lake Placid.

It was a lot of fun meeting everyone! Duane was EXTREMELY helpful with us newbies and although we only spend a short amount of time at the Rally, it was a pleasure meeting everyone! The campground was very nice as well!

Our trip went well with very small issues. The baby did really well throughout the travels and I'm so glad we bought an RV.

It was 95+ degrees in Canada!!!

We will keep an look out for the next rally and try to make more in the future!

It was great meeting you guys too! Duane is a very knowledgable guy so you were leaning on the right source for Cyclone info. Hope we get to see you again real soon!

It was a wonderful Rally and we had a ball. Following the Rally, we traveled to Freeport and Bath Maine, Got to see the shipyard where a Destroyer I served in (USS Porterfield DD682) was built - a WW2 Fletcher class can. No problems encountered on this trip. A Great Big "Well Done" (Bravo Zulu in a Navy flag hoist) to the clowns and Chapter Leaders Greg and Beth.
