Accidentally filled black tank instead of fresh h20 and flooded

Made a huge rookie mistake today. I've been trying to get some literature on how to fill fresh water tank.isee the guides in this forum but they can be confusing to a newbie. I think the term"city water" should not be used with"fresh water" cause isn't city water fresh. I would rather they used faucet and tank or something similar. I have a 13 torque 301 with the 4 way Andersen valve which I had set to tank. There are obviously only two water connections that a garden hose will attach to. One is for fresh/city water and the other is the black tank flush (which I thought was for filing the fresh tank). Guess which one I hooked it up to to. I have two stickers next to the hookup for city/fresh. One sticker is on top of another. The top sticker is labeled city and the bottom sticker is labeled fresh. This led me to believe that the hookup to fill the fresh water tank was the lower one( the black flush) . The cap also looked like my old trailers fresh gravity fill. Well when I was filling the fresh sensor wasn't moving and the black tank was filling. I thought it was just the sensor cause they are known for being inaccurate. Well i was doing other things while filling and before I realized what happened it was too late. I saw water all over the bathroom floor and the toilet was over flowing and for some reason it was raised up off the floor like someone pulled it up from floor.not sure y that happened. I'm not sure how long I had it going but it wasn't too long considering it could have been worse. The great thing about this was it was clean water. I mean it looked like it had just come out of the faucet. I don't think the previous owner even did #2 in the camper. everything is like new. Anyway, I shop vacced as much as I could went down to the lower storage removed doors. I put a dehumidifier on the floor next to bathroom and put fans in the lower storage cause that's where all the water went. I also tilted the camper and got as much as I could to drip out. If there is anything else you guys would recommend doing to help with this matter. The dealer said I shouldn't need to remove that black under belly cover. He didn't have the manuals from the previous owner

Remove one of the stickers. Leave the one that makes sense to you.
I would not expect the toilet to overflow unless the bowl valve seal leaks. The overflow should have come out the vent on the roof.

Oh that won't happen again. I'm just wondering why the toilet came up and off the floor. Water will find it's way through things especially with a little pressure. The toilet usually holds water in the bowl after flushing. I don't think that little flap is going to stop that much running water. That's my assumption. But I could be wrong.

The water pressurized and expanded your black tank. Usually the excess water would take the path of least resistance and fill the vent pipe until water comes out at the roof. Perhaps your vent is blocked. If that's the case, the water would apply upward pressure on the toilet.

Been there, done that. My black tank clean out hook up is now paint black for identification purposes. I now also have an elbow on my fresh water connection.

That's a good idea, make it black. But like I said. I doubt I'll make that mistake again.

I took 10 minutes and relabeled everything in the UDC this way I renamed them exactly what made sense to BOTH of us. It helped avoid this situation many times. (Brother P-touch $40)

At least it was empty! I did it when it was full, I wanted to put a little water in the black tank before emptying it and I forgot to pull the valve after I hooked up the black flush. I don't think I have ever heard my wife scream like that before. It all came up out of the toilet as well and down the steps, like others said, path of least resistance. Well at least it was all ours! yuk.

I did the same thing this past weekend. And you better believe I won't do that again, but I do like the idea of painting that hook up for the black tank. I also now keep a lot of Lysol around. I had every other cleaner in the coach, but no disinfectant.

Believe me it is an easy mistake to make. DW now always asks me about a dozen times if I have the water on or have it hooked up right every time I am messing around the UDC. :)

Unfortionally I did the same thing about 6 years ago and I still triple check every time I hook the water up.

Even if you know which is the black flush.....NEVER EVER turn on the water and leave for any reason. Don't ask.

To make sure this never happens, I added a manual one way ball valve on the black tank flush line, behind the UDC wall. I have to manually turn on the flush line, or no water will flow.

I'll answer this just in case your still reading this. When I did it the system was pressurized and just before it came out of the toilet and ran down the stairs, it blew off the outlet for the black tank. Not clear off, in fact it took over a year before it was a problem. The smell of sewer became unmistakable, but mostly the belly was dry. When I had finally had enough and removed the front half of the fiber underbelly, I found the puddle. No solids, just liquid. Several hundred dollars and a week without a bathroom, a helpful mobile repairman (if you are as old as I am, it's a two person job) and I fixed the problem. We recemented the outgoing line back into the tank. No matter what the dealer says, let your nose be your guide!!!!!

I've read a lot about composting RV toilets lately...eliminates black tank issues. Anyone tried one?

I took a permanent marker and wrote on the UDC back wall wrote black tank with a arrow pointing to it. Same with the fresh water inlet.
