our bed stays down and does not flip up. but to answer you statement on clearance of the slide yes the slide clears by an inch or more. see pic.

we found the stock plywood for the bed was too short and when sitting on the edge of the bed the mattress would fold down. I replaced the plywood with a larger piece so the whole mattress is now supported, bonus is the plywood extension makes lifting it up easier to access the under bed storage...
