    Upcoming long trip

Thanks, Bill. Great read. My mom lived in Rohnert Park for many years, so I've had a longstanding love / hate relationship with the good ol' I-5. This will by my first time traversing it while towing, however.

    Upcoming long trip

You know, she has no problem sleeping on trips. She wakes up and asks "how long have I been asleep?" and I always respond, Dunno...I've been sleeping too!"

    Upcoming long trip

Thanks for your insight, Bill. We're going to stick with the 1-5. The truck is an 08 Silverado (5.3). We weigh about 4500lbs, which is well under the 7500lb tow rating. It'll be slow going up the Grapevine but the rig has done well in several short trips in our local mountains. I'm more...

    Upcoming long trip

We'll be heading up to the northern Calif coast first week of May, a distance of 475 miles. This will be our first long trip. Is it a reasonable expectation to think I can do this drive in one day? We're towing our 181 with an 08' Silverado 1500. I'm thinking about 10 hours.

    Wheel Bearings

Has anyone done a repack on they're wheel bearings? We've had our 181 since Oct 2010 and I'm thinking it's time to check them. I'm not the handiest character when it comes to this sort of thing, but from my snooping around the internet, it looks do-able. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Christine, I got our's online. Just google Camp Chef Oven. I believe we got it through Amazon.

    181 Table Bed Fit Problems

David, your fix is exactly what I did shortly after buying our 181 in 2010. The L bracket works great and no more annoying gap between the table and wall. Shoot...I've since even removed the other leg...

    mpg covers

I ended up taking our 181 to a local canvass / boat cover shop. They made a very high quality, heavy duty cover with a perfect fit, using Sunbrella material. It was pricey but I'm glad I did it. Our trailer looks as good as the day we bought it almost two years ago and it stays nice and clean...

Interesting coincidence...we recently bought a Camp Chef, too. Good quality and very robust.

Nicely done! I've been considering a solar panel for our 181. Thanks for the inspiration!

    MPG custom cover

Good for you. I must have missed them when I did my looking 16 months ago. I ended up with a custom job from a local canvas shop. It's very high quality but it was expensive. No regrets, however. Our 181 stays nice and clean between trips. It looks as good as the day we bought it!

    Stove Top Issue

We have no igniter on our 2010 180 and therefore no clicking sound... we just use a lighter stick.

Can I tow without Tow Package?

Definitely a good idea to add the trani cooler. They're not expensive and really do help the engine run cooler. I would think a Highlander would be very capable of towing an MPG, even without a tow package. You can usually get the tow rating by putting your VIN into a decoder, or checking...

    MPG Screen Room?

We do not have one on our 181, but seriously considered it at one point, until we found out how much it cost, that is. I forget the figure now, but it was shockingly expensive. To me, it also looks like a hassle to put up. We're still considering an awning but really, our nice large umbrella is...

    Quality Control on MPG's

Yeah, the kitchen drawers keep slipping of the alum. angles. Such a simple thing but seemingly not important enough for the factory to do right. I have a buddy in the RV biz...he says it's a totally unregulated industry. Going to use your fix on our 181.

What should I look for in a Generator?

I have a Yamaha and I would not recommend it. Don't know the model#, but it's the next one up from the smallest and definitely capable of running the AC, etc. The last few uses, it's been surging, which after a bit of nosing around on-line, seems to be a symptom, as I found other owners with the...

    RV cover

I had a custom cover made at a local canvas shop for our MPG 181. A bit pricey, but I'm glad I did it...RV's take a beating in the sun here in SoCal.

    The Dome Setup

We've put off the dome decision for our 181, but I will look foward to hearing your opinion.

On the verge of buying an MPG

Good for you! We got our 181 about six weeks ago and our first trip was great. I'm an old backpacker / tent camper, too, and I must say, our first trip was nice, warm, dry and restful. We're new to RV'ing, so there's lots to learn and I'm sure we'll get a bit more organized each time we venture...

    mpg with the mpg

Congratulations on your purchase! I note you're in Florida...great place to be this time of year. We bought our 181 late September and are very happy with it thus far. Heading out for our second outing next weekend and really looking forward to it.

MPG 181 design ideas from new owner.

Yeah...I agree..there's not a great deal of room for an awning. The tent arrangement they offer is nice, but way too expensive for my budget and it looks like a hassle to set it up. I haven't done any real diligence on the awning yet but it's definitely the direction I want to go. I do know...

MPG 181 design ideas from new owner.

Sorry for the late response. We don't use the dinette for a bed, so the table stay's up except when traveling. In the up position, the inside (wall side) table leg stay's folded up with the table edge resting on the L channel that I mounted to the wall. This way, there is no longer a gap between...

    Gap?

We just purchased our 181 six weeks ago. We've only been out once, but I never saw any light coming through. Thus far, we really like this TT. Looking forward to our second outing next weekend. If you get one, I don't think you'll be disapointed.

    Towing

I would think a 4runner get get the job done nicely. These TT's are very light. Even fully loaded (but without water), I'm well under 3600lbs with our 181. I'm towing with an old GMC Sierra (91'). So far, so good...it handles the load with ease. I know what you mean about tight storage issues...

    Stablizer Jacks

Hi Dan, If you do ask for two more jacks, make sure they're good one's. The jacks that came with our 181, while sufficient for this small TT, are really cheapo. I'm going to remove them and add four of a higher quality, given that one has already broken (the nut sheared).

    Heater switch on monitor panel

Ok, this is is likely a dumb question, but given that the heater turns on simply by sliding the setting lever on the thermostat, then what is the function of the toggle switch marked "heater" on the monitor panel? I ask because on our first outing with our 181 recently, I finally tried to turn...

So, Where Do You Put Your Clothes in an MPG?

We just bought the 181 and took it out the first time a couple weeks ago. The clothing storage was a question we had as well. We were able to get a suprising amount of clothing into two shelves of the pantry leaving two for food, etc. I tow with a truck that has a shell. I rigged up a sturdy...

MPG 181 design ideas from new owner.

We took our maiden voyage to the central California coast last week to a favorite old haunt on the beach...we throughly enjoyed our cool little TT. Had a few minor issues but all in all, it was a great time. We got some rain one evening and were sooo happy to be inside after all our years of...

    Questions on MPG product

We were able to get all of our folding clothes onto a pantry shelf each (a week of clothes). The hanging stuff went on a bar I rigged up in the truck. It worked out fine and we had 2 shelves left for dry goods in the pantry.
