    Landing gear position indicator

The legs are hard to see where a reference point for a painted line. I have been looking at the foot for a long time and that has been ok until my attention was diverted for a second and CLUNK!! This little fix is so easy to monitor and it is very inexpensive. Just a little helpful tool if...

    Landing gear position indicator

That is fine if you can see the end of the tubing. When the tubing end is up inside the compartment and out of sight the white line is useless.

    Landing gear position indicator

Hello All, How many of you have jammed the landing gear up when retracting it and causing expensive damage? Well, I have and it made me mad and feeling stupid. The experience caused me to consult with my engineer son for a solution. We came up with something that will help to stop this from...

    Landing gear gear lubrication

I hear you. If this fix does not hold up I think a second motor (about $250.00) would be the next move. The hydraulic change is out of my budget. I also learned the manufacturers will not sell just the jack nut (911-10) so I could repair the landing gear. They want to sell the complete jack leg...

    Landing gear gear lubrication

I am re-posting this because the jack screw on the driver's side failed, threads stripped. After studying the installation for a while and not wanting to pull the generator, I decided to cut an access hole in the generator housing compartment right where the upper jack clamp is. Made it big...

    Landing Gear switch

The thing I like about the relay is it's current rating (150A surge and 75A continuous) and it is mounted close to the motor. No long runs of large wires. The control switch is handling low current with smaller wiring.

    Landing Gear switch

Hi Lou and Bette, I used the existing switch that is the 'up/down' switch. Re-wired it to the new relay. I used #8 wiring for the motor and relay power. Got solder connectors at Lowes.

    Landing Gear switch

The landing gear switch that controls the current to the motor was hot. The current is enough to fry the switch. The factory uses a double pole double throw switch wired in parallel to try to handle the current. I had problems with mine and when I discovered this I looked for a better way to do...

    Floor heat vents

Brian, Things falling to them, dirt, hot air coming up at you, and just plain UGLY. The idea of incorporating them in toe kicks or cabinets sounds good. Also, on a wall a small cabinet could be made to accommodate a register. Anything would be better than in the middle of the floor. YUCK!!

    Landing gear gear lubrication

I have a generator and it makes it impossible to get to the driver's side jack for maintenance. Why Heartland did not see this and make an accommodation to service the jack escapes me. Oh well, It is up to the owners to come up with ways to take care of their units or just give a dealer a bunch...

    Floor heat vents

I am tired of dealing with the problems floor mounted heat vents cause. I am looking into removing them and reinstalling them in a vertical space, ie; wall, cabinet, anywhere they could be and be fed from under the coach. Has anyone else done this? If so, please give some advice. Thanks in...

    Black Tank Level Sensors

I have read a lot about the accuracy problems with tank probes. It sounds to me that the Horst probe sensors are the only thing that works well. WHY do the manufactures keep putting the same junk, that always fails, into new coaches?? You would think they would try to correct these kind of...

    Spring eye bushings

Dave, The rig has not been on the road much, maybe 20000 miles. I wouldn't have detected the problem if my son hadn't done a close inspection for me. I sure hope all trailering RV'ers do frequent inspections and maintenance. Bill

    Spring eye bushings

Oregon Camper, Here are a few pics of the 'crap bushings', or the remains of them. My suggestion for tests are to jack up the rig to relieve the tires off the ground. Use a small jack to lift each axle a little, one at a time, to check for sloppy fit at the pivot points. use a pry bar also to...

    Spring eye bushings

Hi All, Recently my son and I decided to look at the spring shackle and equa-flex bushings on our 2009 Bighorn. It has Lippert 6000 axles. What we found was a mess. Some of them were nylon and a few were bronze. The nylon was totally worn thru and gone and a few of the bronze were worn very...

    Cabinets

Yes, happykraut. I am venting. I did re glue all of them as they separated. I am a bit disappointed there has been no response from the factory. It would be nice to know how they are being built now.

    Cabinets

I have had many cabinet doors come unglued in the past few years. It appears the glue used for assembly is very poor. I would sure hope Heartland would use better quality material for this. It is a negative for a supposed quality coach.

    Generator starting and running problems

Thanks all. A clue to the oil source comes to me from a propane dealer here. He says the oil most likely comes from the propane pump that filled my tanks. If the seal is leaking it can let lubricating oil from the pump into the propane. I have blown the lines and the first retest was the same...

    Generator starting and running problems

I have been having a generator problem with starting and running lately. It starts and runs for about 10-15 seconds then quits. It takes 3-5 trys before it will run and then it does fine. I have tried both tanks. They are full. I removed the line below the propane tank and found some oil in it...

    Added Charge Wizard to Converter

I have a 60A Progressive Dynamics Power Converter in our Bighorn 3400RL (factory). I just recently discovered the capability of having a Charge Wizard remote for it. WHY DID THE FACTORY NOT INCLUDE IT AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT?? It provides so much important information and charging control of the...

    Cheap Cabinet doors

2009 Bighorn. I have had 7 cabinet doors come apart at the corners so far. It requires the doors to be removed, glued and clamped, then reinstalled. What a pain. Really shows how cheaply made they are. I guess Heartland looks for anything to cut costs. REALLY, a little glue would have prevented...

    Faulty Grab Handle

Jim and All, After talking with the factory it appears the handle I had was a Cheng RV-3001. I am replacing it with a ITC Stow and Go. It appears to be built very strong.

    Faulty Grab Handle

Hi All, I am trying to track down the manfacture of this. Stromberg-Carlsen claims it is not theirs. The unit is a 2009 and make the handle about 2-3 years old. I would hope it wouldn't deteriorate that fast. Here is a picture.

    Faulty Grab Handle

Has anyone ever had the grab handle at the door break when using it? We did, both fittings broke when someone was using it to climb the steps. Fortunately they were not hurt but it could have been bad if they had fallen. It is the large one that folds closed when traveling. I think it is a...

    Missing Pocket Door

Well, with the help of my Son we got-er-done.. We got acloset bypass track with rollers and a very nice solid wood paneled door at theHome Depot. Had to trim it o size. RO water filter

FYI. Has anyone installed an RO water filter in their rig? We had a motorhome for years before we got our Bighorn and I installed an RO system in it and was very pleased with the water quality it gave us where ever we went. We found water quality was pretty poor in most of the parks we stayed in...

    Missing Pocket Door

Thanks John. Yes, there is signs of empty screw holes. I thought it looked like there was one there originally. I'm in the process of seeing how I can get the track reinstalled for a door. A bit of a challange.

    Missing Pocket Door

We have a 2009 Bighorn 3400RL. I noticed there had been some changes done to the wall at the step. It appeared there was a space for a pocket door there. When I removed the fill material I discovered a space for a pocket door. Was there one there originally? Why would it have been removed. I...

Hello All, I am a new member and proud new owner of a 2009 Bighorn 3400RL. It has been very interesting learning all about the coach and where everything is. I cannot find the 'converter'. Does anyone know where it is located?? Thanks in advance. Bill
