Hello Everyone, Thank you to everyone over the years who have helped and offered advice on the issues we have had on the Big Country. We have been offered a screaming trade value on a new Fifth Wheel of another brand. I know I will miss this forum and the great people on it. So, I will still be...

Wires in roof over Control panel

Are there any wires in the roof over the closet housing the main control panel? I want to drill a hole about 12 inches from the side of the trailer to route wires for my Wifi antenna power down between the walls that the control panel is mounted on. I have been in the wall so i know that is all...

12 Volt fuse blows, Now ceiling fan doesn't work - SOLVED

Done that, no relationship that I can see. Probably a mystery that will remain unsolved. Ceiling fan works, I am happy, now I have other things to focus on.

12 Volt fuse blows, Now ceiling fan doesn't work - SOLVED

Pulled the DC fuse panel, found the wires on the ground side of the number 9 fuse loose. the wires were loose on the long metal block where all the white wires connect. This is the fuse that has been blowing and causing the ceiling fan to not work. I am not sure of the relationship between the...

    Electric Awning works Intermitently

Surprised I got 5 years out of it. No tape on it, nothing, just the two splices exposed to the elements. They do look corroded. I will let you know if it works when I change them tomorrow after work.

    Electric Awning works Intermitently

Sitting here thinking, the wires connect from the RV to the awning using those fold over splices. The ones that use a small metal blade to pierce the two wires then a plastic fold over cap is snapped in place. The splices are not taped just exposed to the elements. I connected 12 volts to the...

    Electric Awning works Intermitently

Awning quit extending all at once with no warning, went out about 12 inches then stopped, no blown fuse. Checked switch and it has 12v, went to wires on awning arm and applied 12 volts to motor, awning extended and retracted. Had DW hit switch to extend while checking with volt meter on wires...

Towing a Rear Kitchen or Front Living Room

I towed a rear kitchen model for a couple of years and the main thing I noticed is how much stuff moved around. The back end of these longer fifth wheels tend to bounce considerably. We found that a lot of cushion was required to keep things in place. The funniest thing though was the first...

Cargo carrier for the rear exterior

Something to consider when picking a bicycle rack for the rear of your fifth wheel. I spoke to a Swagman representative and he informed me that not all bike racks they sell are approved for use on the rear of an RV. I purchased one of there $150.00 racks and almost dumped both of my bikes on the...

    Water valve/tee

For the first two years of ownership we would winterize the fridge ice maker ensuring it didn't freeze. This was after we froze it the first year of ownership. Now we drained all of the water from the icemaker, shut of the water to the fridge and purchased a table top icemaker. Lift is easy now...

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

The Smart Plug is in my Amazon wish list, maybe Santa will get it for the BC. As for now all is well. I purchased a much higher quality connector then the one that was on the trailer originally and I know it is installed correctly with no cut wires. And, no more pigtails for me. Again, thank you...

Well not how I wanted to end my first trip

I now check under the kitchen sink to make sure the plumbing is still connected. Flooded the underside of the sink because of the exact same condition. P-trap came loose while traveling. Didn't notice it until I drained the sink after washing dishes. Fortunately I had installed a water alarm...

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

Replaced the input connector this past weekend, removed the wires from the old receptacle to insert into the new input plug. Found where they (factory) stripped the outer jacket actually cut through the jackets on the Red and Black wires and scraped the copper on the ground. Had to cut off...

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

I have a new input receptacle coming in tomorrow. I will be changing it then. It definitely shows signs of overheating on the one leg. The adapter overheated in August under normal usage. This is the first trip since. Its been cold this week and using the fireplace and the toaster oven together...

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

I had the panel apart. Saw a bare spot on the wire going to the ceiling fan breaker. Taped that one. I will hit all the breaker screws and make sure all is tight. No generator prep, so no transfer switch correct??

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

I will leave down stairs AC off. And all other items drawing power from that leg until tomorrow. But, the big question is why did it come back on by itself?

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

Yes, EMS. Everything looked good at the EMS. After verifying no faults. I plugged directly into the pedestal, same thing. Crazy thing is, why did it come on by itself? At fist i thought it was the GFCI outlet. But when it wouldn't trip or reset I pulled it and found no power at the wires to the...

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

Been 20 minutes or so, everything still on. Weird, and now that i think about it, Tuesday morning. Coffea maker and fireplace was off when i got up to go to work. While checking GFCI in downstairs bathroom everything came on by itself.

Lost one leg of 50 amp but came back on

I lost one leg of AC power but it returned by itself. pedestal power was good. Progressive surge protector showed no errors. I reset all the breakers, reset the pedestal nothing came back on, decided well I guess I'll have to wait for someone to come out tomorrow. While watching TV in the...

    Winterizing complication

And, don't forget the flush valve on the toilet. They hold about a thimble of water, just enough to crack the valve. Ask me how I know. I blew out the lines and still cracked the valve in the Dometic 320, luckily not the bowl. Makes for a nice Geiser in the bathroom.

    Satellite TV

We also travel with a full size dish on a tripod we set up every time we move, for local channels I put up the bat wing antenna. Usually that will pull in all local channels. Directv Dish will usually receive channels above 67 but nothing below. I just switch the input on the living room tv...

    Residential Frigdiare Units.

I will remove the plug and replace both ends with the smart plug. I really like the design and those of you already using it, I like what I hear. Thanks for all the suggestions. If I find anything interesting, I will post pictures. But, I really think it just came loose on the inside of the...

    Awning Creep

I sprayed along the awning where it goes into the track with silicone spray and after multiple jerks while standing on a picnic table it moved, about 8 inches!!! So beware, when it moves it will move a lot if your not careful. Mine continues to move about every couple of weeks I have to pull...

    Power Cord won't unplug

It's not melted, nor did it get hot. It is spinning on the inside of the trailer. If I can't get the plug loose from the trailer I guess I will let it dangle from the side. Oh well, just one more little aggravation. I just don't want to take a chance on breaking any wires on the inside. Think...

    Power Cord won't unplug

I didn't think of that, I was concerned about breaking it. I will look and see if there are screws holding the plug and cover to the side of the trailer. Or if they are accessible with the plug plugged in. The trailer is in storage right now, so I will check that when I go to it next weekend...

    Power Cord won't unplug

Bought one of those Camco 90 degree adapters to allow the power cord to hang straight down and this past week I couldn't get the yellow adapter plug to come loose from the trailer plug. Normally you turn the handle counter clockwise to insert and back again to disconnect. It appears that the...

Ram 3500 DRW with Nexen tires

Just over 32K on my Nexen tires, have lost 3 out of 6 due to tread separation. Replacing slowly but surely as the Nexens fail with Michelins. Good thing is, I will only have to replace two at a time as the Michelins wear under normal conditions. Seems like the Nexens on the rear are the ones...

Can't get hitch off the ball!

Is it a receiver hitch? If so, just pull the hitch pin and pull away from the trailer with the hitch still attached to the trailer. If not, take the big nut of the ball and lift the ball off the bumper. Maybe something broke inside the hitch causing it not to release.

I did the repair with the metal plate and the screws and the liquid nail pulled off after about 1 week of use. I even cleaned the door area with acetone before applying the liquid nail.
