Gas Mileage towing a fifth wheel

There are a number of discussions on this throughout the forum. I have a Bighorn 3055 in the weight range you are interested in. On the road weight is about 12,700 lbs and I pull it with a Chevrolet 2500 diesel with a 3.73 rear. I usually pull around 60 mph and have varied from 8.5 mpg...

Twentynine Palms, CA to Las Vegas, NV

Marty, Bob, and Ray, thanks for the first hand information on that route. It takes a load off of my mind. We had stayed at Twentynine Palms in 2007 on another trip and found the area beautiful and very interesting. Amboy road near the town looked OK, but appreciate your assurances. Since we...

Twentynine Palms, CA to Las Vegas, NV

We are planning to travel to see the Joshua Tree NP and stay in Twentynine Palms, CA during the end of June then up to Las Vegas, NV. The TL Directory Campground Navigator (TLDCN) 2010 has us traveling north from Twentynine Palms over some non-numbered roads. Specifically from Twentynine Palms...

    BH 3055 Tires

I ran my origional Mission "E" tires for two years, then at about 7000 miles one of the tires delaminated on my during a trip. I read up on the tires and listened to the forum members on line here, then decided to go with the Goodyear G614 for all five tires. They seemed to be the best of the...

Possible to use different tire size?

After losing the tread on one of my origional tires, I followed the advise of several members here and bought a set of five Goodyear G614 tires. The rims are rated for G tire and they seem to come well recommended. Mine are working well so far.

Favorite place to camp in the Northeast?

We have many favorite places in the Northeast. In no particular order: A. Watkins Glen (walk the Glen, Wine trails, Corning glass museum); B. Acadia NP near Bar Harbor, ME. Beautiful scenery; C. Mystic, CT; D. Stowe, VT; E. Williamsburg, VA; F. St. Augustine, FL; G. Savannah, GA; H...

    Bighorn 3055 Kitchen shelf Bracket

Our bracket sheared through near the top, simply stress of the weight of the shelf. I got a new one from Heartland for a reasonable cost, but am sure that it will do the same thing. The metal does not appear to be heavy enough to support the weight of the shelf during towing. Heartland should...

    Outdoor World in New Jersey

Well, I read all of the posts, but maybe I missed any description of Sea Pines OW resort. We were there last summer with three rigs, all 5W in the 32 - 36 foot length. Sea Pines was a nice CG, but did have the misfortune of having small narrow roads branching off of the two main lanes. Trees...

    Counter Extension Broken

Just to add my two cents: The front bracket on my extension also broke through in such a way that it must be metal fatigue. Too much weight on the two brackets. I went to my dealer and he ordered one for me from Heartland. I think that it was about $15.00. Haven't installed it as yet as the...

    King bed in 3055rl

We actually replaced our factory King bed with a California King (82"X72") rather that 80"X70". It is also much, much thicker than the origional so I stand and hold up on corner and place it on top of the sink while the wife brings the slide in. Works well so far. I had not realized that...

Roamers Retreat CG - Kinzer, PA

Just returned from our stay at Roamer's Retreat CG near Kinzer, PA. A Bighorn was parked when we first arrived, but pulled out a couple of days later. A Landmark Augusta and a Big Country 3250 pulledn toward the weekend. Both were brand new rigs. The Big Country was a 2011 model with jazzy...

Storing LCD TV's over the winter

John, this is new territory for most of us as LCD TV's in our RVs haven't been around too many years. This is my second year with an LCD. Unfortunately the first year found the BH in the RV dealers and the Television was stolen in January, so that one doesn't count. I found a number of...

    Spring or Fall?

    NASA LUNAR Impact Friday morning

In my view of life, there should always be a significant place for exploration. We, as a species, have always pushed our boundaries and cannot exist without continuing to do so. Granted we haven't always done so wisely, but it is our nature to explore none the less. Clark

    Tire balance

Following a catastropic tread separation on my origional Mission tires I replaced them with GoodYear G614. Given the need for balance on all of my automobile and truck tires, I had the new GY all balanced. I'm too insulated from the trailer to feel the shake resulting from unbalanced tires so...

    Satellite Antenna recommendations

Very Big Thanks to all of you for your input on this. I copied your comments and emailed them to my brother for his decision. I had recently seen the VuCube in Camping World Myrtle Beach and thought that it might be a good alternative to a dish on a tripod (which could be subject to getting...

    Myrtle Beach, SC Sept 19-26

Just after touching down at home, washing clothes and cutting grass, we headed for the Myrtle Beach Trav L Park. Mystic, CT Sept 9 - 15th

Carolyn and I traveled from south/central PA to Mystic, CT Sept 9 - 15th. Mystic is a wonderful area to visit for those of you who haven't stopped in there as yet. The town itself (actually a local Indian name, having nothing to do with "mystical") is small and quaint with a drawbridge over...

    Winterizing without anti-freeze?

    cruise control

I'll throw my two cents in. I use cruise control and tow/haul mode in all exept Very hilly terraine or Very wet or poor road conditions when towing my 3055RL. If the transmission starts down shifting on steep hills, then I'll drop the cruise and go to foot control to save fuel. Clark

    Tire Recall

Well Jim, I seldom pull my BH at over 100 kph (62 mph) so does that mean that I don't have to worry? Outside of Porshe in Europe, I don't see us even approaching those speeds. It would definitely be an adrenaline rush though wouldn't it?

    3055RL Electrical problem

I'm not an electrician either, but if you have checked the GFI and circuit breaker the only other thing that comes to mind is that a wire worked loose in the outlet. Planning to go to Idaho, make this Day Trip..

Thanks for the pictures of Boy Scout Cave. We explored Craters of the Moon in 2007 on our long trip. It was one of our favorite sights and is unfortunately little known. Awesome thinking that it was a predecessor to Yellowstone and that the hot spot that created both traveled and melted the...
