Newbie to cold weather camping: Need advice

Greetings all, I am wanting to try some cold weather camping (25 degrees Fahrenheit and above). We have a 2017 Elkridge 30RLT. We had a very slight freeze in my water line a few nights ago when the temp got down to about 29 or 30. My connections are just inside an exterior door with a "hole" in...

Newbie to the inverter 5th wheel thing

Thanks Carl, It is factory installed. It's a 2017 Elkridge 30rlt that I just bought new. I have no idea what the model number is or how it is wired. It is in storage but I am packing up tomorrow for a trip so I will try to get that information and/ or pictures. There is a "remote" switch in the...

Will it do any damage to my electrical system on my Elkridge 30rlt or any of my appliances if the inverter is on and I am connected to or connect to 50A shore power? Thanks Sandy, Barbara and furbaby Ebby

5ER Newbie question and Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection Gooseneck Mount

I recently traded my Mallard for an Elkridge and my RAM 1500 for a Chevy Silverado 3500. The Chevy already had a gooseneck ball in the longbed of the truck so I opted for the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel connection. Here is my problem: In order to hook up (on level ground) I have to have my...

Using hydraulic jacks in rear only?

Thanks to everyone for all the help. My situation is....if the folks that move my camper out of storage for me to hook up, forget the 6x6 blocks under the front jacks, I have to get them to go back out and raise it to put the blocks under it. I have to have the blocks because my jacks don't...

Cabinet doors dont stay open when lifting up.

Thanks for all the answers. It seems like in the M27 the doors didn't have struts. The hinge itself had a "stiff" point where they would stay open. I have a fear that the struts would cause the doors to "pop" open when traveling. To those of you using struts, is that a problem...doors popping...

Using hydraulic jacks in rear only?

Dan thanks for the quick reply. Here is the possible situation. We are storing the Elkridge at a "valet" type storage facility. We have an Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel hitch. In order for us to hitch up, the front of the camper has to be a little higher than the front jacks extend thus the need...

Cabinet doors dont stay open when lifting up.

We just upgraded to an Elkridge 30rlt form a Mallard M27. In the M27 the cabinet doors that opened "up", (lifting them up to open) would stay open without holding them. The NINE that we have in the Elkridge do not stay open. Did they put on the wrong hinges or is this the way it is in the...

Using hydraulic jacks in rear only?

I just traded our M27 for an Elkridge 30RLT. It has the lippert self leveling system. We have come in to a situation where we may need to raise the front jacks to get a 6x6 block under them. Can we lower the rear and/or middle jacks and safely raise the front jacks to get the blocks under them...

    Gooseneck for my 5th wheel?

Further clarification. Got an email from Heartland and they suggested I contact Lippert Components (who apparently handles the hitch warranty issues for Heartland). Lippert says you can use the goose neck IF you use a Reese goose neck pinbox on the camper.

    Gooseneck for my 5th wheel?

Thought I should pass this along. I just spoke with Heartland and they said ANY (including Anderson Ultimate) gooseneck will void your warranty for structural damage. I questioned them on the Anderson hitch because it does raise the hitch up but they said ANY gooseneck. Ohh well so much for the...

    Gooseneck for my 5th wheel?

Thanks doublegranch. I sent an email to Heartland and hopefully will hear from them too. I think they were talking about just putting an adapter on the camper. The truck I am getting has a ball hitch in the middle of the bed already. I hope a dealer wouldn't do something that would void a...

    Gooseneck for my 5th wheel?

Greetings all We bought our first camper, a 2017 Mallard M27, last year and have decided to move on up to a new 2017 Elkridge 30RLT 5er. It is new and we are buying a silverado 3500hd turbo diesel to haul it. It is a long bed and already has a ball hitch in the center of the bed for a gooseneck...

Good afternoon. We have made our reservations for our first ever rally in our first ever camper (Mallard M27). Coming in from Hickory NC Thursday and leaving Sunday. Is there a registration process we need to take care of? Do we need to register here or is that something we do when we get there...

Is this newbie expecting too much?

Thanks Dan, I called Heartland and found out the parts were ordered on Aug. 9th, (2 1/2 WEEKS AFTER my appointment on July 24th!!!), sent out on the 11th and signed for today. Waiting to hear back from Camping World. Heartland did there job! Thanks! (Don't know if I can say this but...) I AM...

Is this newbie expecting too much?

I bought a new 2017 Heartland Mallard M27 from Camping World in Statesville, NC. After three camping trips I found several items that needed replacing or repaired. None of the repairs I would consider anything major. A gap in the nightstand, a scratched/damaged wall, a short in a light etc. I...

Thanks John Our slide is the dinette also and that is a problem for us. I tried to zoom the picture but couldn't make out where the jacks are placed underneath. Are they at the outer edge of the frame? Thanks Sandy

    Newbie has questions!

Being a good newbie, I tend to buy some things before really checking in to it. I bought, but have not used, the "Jack-in-the-Box" slide stabilizers. After getting them I have seen some "threads" that they would void my warranty. I would appreciate any input....pro or con. We've only been out...

Weighing truck and trailer (Newbie so patience is appreciated)

Thanks for the input. i had not thought about some of the weight being on the front axle of the truck but that makes sense since the front end isn't supposed to move up more than about an inch when you are hooked up. I wish I could make it to the national rally this year. Perhaps next year. Any...

Weighing truck and trailer (Newbie so patience is appreciated)

I'm guessing this has been asked a "gazillion" (That's really a word. Websters dictionary and all.) times but here goes. Please tell me if the following scenario is accurate. I am going to use "ficticious" numbers for the sake of this example. I have my truck weighed. Full gas etc. The front...

Is the shower supposed to be sealed?

We just got our 2017 Mallard M27. I noticed that the shower "insert" is not caulked or sealed around the edges in any way. The wallpaper appears to be water proof or at least water resistant. My concern is moisture getting behind the "insert" and ending up with a mold problem. Am I over thinking...

    Low propane flow to stove

Thanks for all the great input. Just talked to the dealer and they say that the propane "system" checked out fine and that they did a manometer test and the flow was fine. I did not ask for a flow number because they are going to hook up the portable grill and see what it does. They seemed to...

    Low propane flow to stove

I just purchased a new 2017 Mallard M27. On our 1st camping trip I was trying to boil water for noodles for spaghetti. The water never did get to a full rolling boil. I was using a T-Fal aluminum (apx. 3-4 qt.) pot about 2/3 full. I also tried to use a new "portable" grill hooking up to the...
