1/4 Inch Hydraulic Line Splice/End Connector Emergency Repair Device

This is so cool for you to post! I have have looked high and low for this product that I knew existed but couldn't find. Our rig is three years old, though I think it was a poorly crimped fitting that failed.

They do make repair in the field parts though I haven't found them for this type/size hydraulic line (non metallic braiding). Now I know I can fix almost everything on this rig.

    You haven't lived until...

Until you have a split hydraulic line (at a fitting) on the Thursday night before Memorial day weekend in the middle of Needles, CA. when the temperature was nearing 100⁰F. It decided to let go when the levelers were part way extended, I had just taken it off the truck and was lowering it to...

new solar install - question for those who installed panels on roof

I moved my batteries to behind the basement walls as well. My controller is about two feet from the batteries. I ran a larger wire to the front compartment to run all the stuff there. It is supposed to run more efficiently.

This is way it should be.

The prices for the panels are screwy right now. I paid $1000. for 4 24vdc 324 watt panels (Canadian) and picked them up myself in Sacramento. Battle Born batteries are for whatever you can get them for as they are also going up and down. I did get a military discount and had them shipped to a...

    Solar pre-wire

Our trailer came prewired for solar too. The only thing we used was the 1 1/2" pipe that went from our roof to the basement. We ran our wires through the pipe from our panels to the controller. Even though we have the same year and model trailer as the post above us, they may not have it.

What did you do to your camper today?

Couldn’t find my pressure gauge for tire inflation today, so used the one at the resorts compressor. Found that my gauge was 15 pounds off and my tires were under inflated. Time for a new gauge ! Digital I think.

    Interior step modification

I like what you did. I had originally planned on using the under steps to store my batteries for my solar. Now, seeing yours, I’m going to build drawers in mine too.

Screws holding up the Cloroplast cover

If you shop Harbor Freight, this would be better. https://www.harborfreight.com/8-in-high-leverage-diagonal-cutting-pliers-with-angled-head-63826.html Once you grab the nail, put a thin scrap of wood behind the head for better leverage.

5th Wheel not level when towing

First off, our trailer is pretty level. That said, I cannot do an over 90° turn on unlevel ground without the pinbox hitting my topper rails on my truck. I have a longbed with Andersen hitch. If it ends up being a problem, I will move my pin up one but it hasn’t yet.

Parasitic loss in 12v battery flat overnight

You may find that the refrigerator needs a small amount of 12vdc to keep the pilot light going as well as the light and thermostat.

    Well that’s a drag!

Well, I finished the repair. I’m using self tapping screws with rubber backed washers to hold the cloroplast on in addition to adding linoleum molding in the front and middle rib for extra support. Yes, there are more screws but I don’t mind. I fixed the scraped wiring and had a company that...

Screws holding up the Cloroplast cover

Those weird looking screws may be ramset nails. Part of the head is plastic and the shank is unthreaded. Take a large set of offset diagonals and try prying the as straight down as possible. I had nine or so of them in my front cover.

What did you do to your camper today?

Well we left our trailer with the heater on (not running). It will run tonight through tomorrow when I make the 2.5 hour drive to turn it off. Bummer.

What did you do to your camper today?

We went through an underpass in Spokane that had a stoplight. Since we were stopped, I looked to see if we had any clearance left (the sign said 13’ 8"). We had over a foot of space left so the numbers were pretty close.

What did you do to your camper today?

I can't tell, is that a Valterra brand valve? I have to work on mine sometime, like right afterI drain the system. :)
  17. S

    Well that’s a drag!

As you probably guessed, I’m doing the work myself. I replaced the damaged wires, fixed the scrapes on the hydraulic lines, replaced the busted cables and fastened all the lines to the sides of the trailer frame. I used linoleum edging on the front edge and the midrib for added support and more...

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: CA, Jackson - 9/25/2019 to 9/30/2019

We were able to attend for a couple of hours on Saturday, long enough to learn about the Drainmaster product and the new brass Andersen 4way valves. Everyone was welcoming and had a great time!

    Well that’s a drag!

Well, I just removed one of the nails and it isn’t easy. I certainly won’t be using those on the new piece. We’ve talked to several authorized repair places and no one is able to work on it in a timely manner (months from now or not unless I bought it from them), which is just peachy. I might...

Got our eyes on a 2020 39MB, advice for newbies?

Find a dealer that can actually repair what they sell you. Some dealers can repair certain Heartland trailers others cannot repair them at all. Some only repair what they sell you. So, when you need warranty work, keep this in mind.

    Well that’s a drag!

https://www.ramset.com/ You can see where the plastic is split from the impact. My thoughts when I first saw this. There are eleven in the front panel and then the didin’t put any fasteners in the leading edge and only one in the midrib.
  22. S

    Well that’s a drag!

Some of the fasteners were installed by a Ramset and were shot too deep. The washers cut mostly through the Coroplast and it ribboned from the unfastened front edge down to midrib with only one fastener and on to the other end. The edges are still attached to the trailer. I just cut the pieces...

    Well that’s a drag!

There are a couple of hydraulic lines that are badly scraped, a drain line cable that wore through and several wires that are not showing copper but are close. That sad this is, none of this needed to happen if they were hung properly. I could have just needed to replace the corrugated...

    Well that’s a drag!

So we took off for our first long trip yesterday, made it to Winnemucca to find that the front corrugated cover had come partway off. Do to the sloppy workmanship, quite a few wires, hoses and cables were dragging on the ground damaging several of them. We were camping here for the night anyway...

A review: Andersen Trailer Lift Blocks

We’ve used these blocks ever since we got our trailer (May 2019) and have to say we are pleased with them. First, they come six to a package and are engineered to fit the round plates of the Lippert hydraulic lift system. I’m sure they fit others but this is what I have and can talk about. They...

    Bedroom Vent Fan

Different trailer but when I was installing my bedroom vent I ran a wire from the bathroom fan to the site the fan was going. It was a fairly easy fish though I found a much closer wire later on.

What I would like to see on my Big Horn Traveler

This is my first big rig but one of the things I wanted to do was boondock and or dry camp. From the people I’ve met who have the residential fridge is this is something I didn’t want or seethe value. I wanted to be able to camp on solar. Second, if you put three 32 RS travelers side by side...

What I would like to see on my Big Horn Traveler

Just on two of them. The ceiling fan was so useless it had to go. The bedroom fan was pretty easy. You have to be careful with the way they run wires. Some have no slack and others have an extra foot or two so you can move them around. I can open one fridge door and both freezer doors with the...

What I would like to see on my Big Horn Traveler

All of our speakers are oriented wrong. I just use the sound bar I added. It makes you wonder why they wouldn’t put outlets where you need them (at the dining table). I’ve already added three ceiling exhaust fans. And I can open the freezer and one door of the fridge when the slider is closed.

The TT seems to use a lot of power just in storage. I can turn off the inverter/converter but weeding out the 12 vdc loads will be a challenge. a couple of pics: With induction cooktop going Recovery time.

    Traveler: rear bumper table

We camp a lot. On hot days, cooking indoors can be stifling, so I wanted to build a table to attach to the the rear 4” bumper/storage bar. Surprisingly, quite a bit of the material came from Lowe’s, the expanded metal and square stock came from a metal parts store. I did the cutting, welding and...

I was hoping to follow a few rules. X number of batteries, 1.5 times that amount in panels and etc. Well Victron and take most panels voltage and watts and convert it into 13+ vdc and 35 amps to pour into my batteries. The higher voltage from my panels means less loss on the long run to my...

This is way it should be.

I hadn’t realized how few install pictures I have. 1020 watts in three panels @ 24vdc. Four 100 amp Battle Born batteries in some extra space behind the basement wall. I have a Victron mppt controller, Multiplus 3k, and a BMV 712. A pretty basic system.
