Sometimes the fan will stop with the compressor still running then come back on at a slower speed and other times it acts more like there is a loose connection to the fan motor. Is this normal? Cooling is so-so.

As the ambient temp at the thermostat approaches the set point, if in AUTO FAN mode, the fan will change speed from HIGH to LOW. Then the temp climbs slightly signaling that the fan should go back to HIGH speed.

You can cycle the thermostat to FAN mode and change the speed from AUTO to HIGH which should help.

HOWEVER, the next time you use the furnace, the air conditioner fan will run because it's in HIGH. So make yourself a little note so you know what to do.
