2015 F350 drw question on rail kit

First off, this is my first post. Sorry it's a question. Ill post some pics of my truck/trailer shortly. A little background, I live in my 2014 BC3650RL 2 out of every 3weeks due to work. I didn't want an apartment or house in South Tx so I invested in a 5er. Recently we took a mini vacation to Inks lake state park which was the first trip other than from the dealer to the park I stay at full time. We had a blast! We decided to upgrade our 05 F250 2wd to a 2015 F350 drw 4wd because we realized we want to start traveling more often on my days off and take advantage of owning this nice trailer. I kept the Reese r16 since it only has 400miles on it. So here's the question, will the rail kits specifically for a 2011-2014 work for my 2015? It seems obvious it would but I would like any input from your experience.

Beautiful truck. Inks Lake is only about 1/2 hour away from me. Does your F350 not have the factory 5th wheel prep? If it does, you definitely want to utilize it. It is the "Cats Meow". Hitch goes in/out in 2 min, no tools required, no rails in the bed.

It doesn't have the 5th prep. They convinced me not to do it because it was going to be another $2000. And rails and wiring would be 400 installed locally. Already had a brand new Reese r16 so couldn't justify it. I asked about the rails because I can install them for about $275 for rails and wires. I'm just trying to save a buck where I can considering how much that truck costs.

You should have found a truck with the factory prep. The dealer wanted to sell the truck he had so he talked you out of the good options

Sorry he told you that. The factory prep option is $375 and it gets you the sockets for the 5th wheel, the gooseneck hitch, and the 6-way plug is wired and mounted in the bed.

You still have a gorgeous truck. I love that color combination. I bet it handles your Big Country well.

I'm sorry your dealer gave you bad info. I think that all of the F350s but one on my dealer's lot had the factory prep which tells me it is an almost must have option. A lot of the folks in our area use goose neck live stock and cargo trailers. The folks that added some options to my truck said they could get rails for almost any hitch if I wasn't prepped, but that was for a 2013.

When you say rail kit, are you also including the frame components? They bolt onto the trucks frame and the the rails are bolted thru the bed to the frame mounts. My son and I installed a Reese 20K hitch, rails, and frame mounts in about half a day. The hardest part was drilling thru the truck bed! We got our rails and frame mounts from eTrailer.com. They helped us get the exact mounts and rails to match up with the truck and hitch.

Derek,

I just bought a 2015 F350 DRW 4X4 with the factory 5th wheel prep kit, it took the RV dealer 40 minutes with no cuts/bolts/drilling/wiring to put my Reese 25K hitch in my bed when I bought my 5er last week. and the 25K hitch was $800 installed (their price) since they through it in with the purchase of my 5th wheel. The Ford optional hitch is the same Reese 25K for the DRW

I asked about the hitch. Me and my wife were sick of being there. We both agreed he was "being put out" when I asked about it. He did his salesman thing and convinced me to stick with the rails from a local truck acc. store. I wasn't aware of how nice the reese system or 5th prep was. Today I was made aware that to have the prep I needed to order it from the factory or find one already with it. To do this I would have had to go to another Ford dealer. which now its clear why he didn't want to tell me a lot about it since I would have gone somewhere else and he knew I was going to buy a truck that day. I ordered rails from etrailer today and will use my reese r16 I already have.

Go to Texas Ford Dealers.com and you can see the inventory for nearly every Ford dealer in the state. They also have PDF's of the window stickers so you can see exactly how the truck is equiped. After you look at a couple hundred, you get to where you can tell from the MSRP how the truck is equiped. Here in the Austin area, the factory prep is very common.

Derek,

Sorry to here what happened at that dealer, but if it were me, I think I would have a word with either the General Sales Manager or even better if the Dealership owner is approachable I would let him know how dissatisfied I was with his salesman's "poor guidance". I would also let him know that you will be doing all future purchases from another dealership. And congratulate them on their final sale to you and your family and friends, because with today's technology a few words on the internet can make or brake a salesman or a dealership since "you" as a customer no longer are held to only doing business with the "local" dealer.

My son-in-law had his heart set on an f150 fx 4x4. He went to his local dealer who did not have it in stock. The dealer asked him what color and equipment he wanted then got on his computer and located it at another dealer. This was on a Friday, the truck was at his dealer by Monday. He looked at the truck, took his test drive, did the paper work and drove his new truck home. So I guess my point is that sales person did not look at all the options available!

Don't waste your breathe. I worked in new car dealers for over 18 years. The only future sale any dealer cares about is the one the customer has taken the bait on.

I have never had a dealer not ask me if they could locate the vehicle I want. I almost always order, but they always try. My 06 GMC was a dealer trade from 260 miles away, as it was exactly what I wanted and they deducted more for the extra miles I took it.

When we bought my daughter her car she was too excited to wait 8-12 weeks, so the dealer located her dream car and had it trailered 300 miles to the store.
