220 v electric dryer

I have a 2008 Cyclone 3912 toy hauler, in which I ran a 220v 30amp circuit to the garage area, and installed a apartment full size stacked washer/dryer unit. The unit works fine, cleans cloths great. The only draw back is that you have to be hooked up to 50 amp shore power. Will not run on generator. If anyone has questions on how it was done, contact me here or email- rmcaillouet@bellsouth.net.

I personally would love to hear how you did it. Why don't you post it here in this thread so we can debate it, others can point out similar (and sometimes better) ways they have done similar mods, safety concerns and so on.

I have a portable 240 air conditioner and have been toying with the idea of adding a 240 volt receptacle to our Landmark. My daughter likes to use an ac unit at the beach in the summertime in her tent (same principle, different appliance) And we are more than happy to keep her and her friends out of the camper and in the tent!

First I did alot of research, I had room on my breaker panel to add a double pole 30 amp breaker. I tested the idea by running a temp 30 amp circuit and plugged in a 220v electric dryer that a friend had in storage. I ran dryer as I turned on more of my appliances, a/c, elec water heater, fridge, T V, lights, mircowave etc. to make sure the 50 amp service was sufficent. To my suprise i was able to run both a/c units. as well as above mentioned items. I dried a few loads of cloths to make sure it worked before spending money on a perminate circuit and washer/dryer unit. I added the 30 amp double pole breaker to the panel, ran 10/3 wire with ground out of floor from behind the panel. The wire was run along the frame, attached so that it would not interfear with the slide outs, to the garage area where the cabinet and hook ups were for a washer and dryer combo. Installed a 30 amp plug next to the 110v washer plug. Stacked unit does not fit in cabinet, so it was installed in front on the cabinet in the garage area, pluged into new circuit, the existing plumbing was used. I strap the unit to wall eyelets while in transit. Hope this answers more of your questions. If not just let me know.

What kind of panel do you have in the Cyclone? I think we have a Progressive Dynamics in the Landmark. I would love to see some pics. I thought I would need to add a small sub panel as I didn't think myOEM panel would support a 2 pole receptacle.

I have a progressive dynamics panel board and had slots to add 3 breakers. You should have 2 poles in it and every other breaker slot is connected. You should have a double pole 50 amp main breaker in ur panel already. Hope this helps.

Randy, that's awesome. For some reason, I was thinking about using the half size breakers and realized they would be on the same leg. I hadn't thought about using standard breakers (duh). I also see that GE THQL breakers fit the Progressive Dynamics panel board.

I think if I do add it I will still add a subpanel in the basement. I just happen to have a really nice weather proof box, some DIN rail and a few surplus 2 pole 20 amp DIN rail breakers. I was going to tap off the transfer switch output lugs to feed the breakers. My panel only has one spare left (I have already added a dedicated circuit for something else) Since I have the parts it won't cost anything so why not?

I know that residential sytle washer/dryer works a lot better than the RV style. A lot cheaper too. I am starting to wish I got a toy hauler now. I think my wife is too.
