4G Antenna Install

This last week I installed a 4G cell antenna on the roof of my Landmark Pinehurst. One of my goals of the antenna install was to not have any additional holes in the rubber roof. I attached the antenna to the rear of the bedroom air conditioner. The antenna is attached to a Diamond K9000T Motorized mount purchased from The Antenna Farm. The antenna is a 9.5” Full Band Outdoor Mount purchased from the 3G Store.
I routed the antenna cable and the control wire for the antenna mount inside the air conditioner cabinet and down into the ceiling “attic”
by following the path of the air conditioner power and control wires. From there I routed the cable and wires to the front closet.
I tapped 12 volt power from the TV antenna power amplifier on the front wall of the closet and routed the power wires to the divider
wall next to the washer/dryer. Then I installed a dual port 12 volt plug Model 6867915 purchased from West Marine on the front wall
between the antenna amplifier and 120 volt plugs. I mount the antenna cable below the dual 12 volt plugs. I mounted the control
switch for the motorized mount on the divider wall. I mounted a panel mount fuse holder from a local auto parts store on a blank
wall plate above the TV antenna amplifier. My Verzion MiFi will be mounted by velcro to the front wall above the 12 volt plugs. I mounted my WiFi Ranger to the wall towards the center of the closet. By installing the Verizon MiFi on the front wall of the closet it might be possible to receive a signal in our truck while on the road.

Very nice. I would have never thought of going through the A/C connection/cavity. :)

Nice work Terry!

What we can now easily do with the external WiFi Ranger is have it connect to the MiFi for Internet while moving, then have our mobile clients (tablets, phones etc.) connect to the WiFi Ranger.

Jim,

Yes, we have been doing the same even when sitting still. Right now I am sitting in my living room and getting a signal from the WiFi Ranger in the Landmark, which is about 40 feet away.

Terry,

One Question - why did you need the Diamond K9000T to raise the antenna? At 9 inches I would think that the AC is at least that tall. or do I miss understand what the K9000T does?

If I would have mounted the antenna to the AC at the same point as I did the motor base it would about 3 to 4 inches above the AC cover. I did not want the antenna to be higher than the AC cover which is at 13' 3". Also when traveling I wanted the antenna shielded by the AC cover.

This is a great modification. I never knew there was such a thing as a 4G antenna. I'm going to have to keep this one in mind. Thank you for sharing this one.

I have not had a chance to test it yet, I plan I leaving for a 5 month trip next week. It will tested a lot during the trip.

Now that you've had your antenna for a while, how has it worked out for you? It looks like something I am interested in installiing not only for our cells but internet access also. I feel more comfortable using the hotspot rather than using the campground wifi for transactions, etc. It looks like a very nice installation. I wouldn't have thought of running it in that way. The less holes in the roof, the better.

The antenna works very well, it increases the signal about 50 percent.
