8k axles not avail?

Inquired w/ a salesman at dealer about possible upgrade to 8k axles from 7k axles on a BC 3560SS. Reply was, "No, not avail". Is this indeed true? Saw somewhere's on the forum that 8k axles were avail but under a "special" section" that dealers don't want to tell customers about. Just seems to me that if they are avail, why not either make it an option or standard in 1st place. With coaches grossing out at 16,000, and not being a engineer, the more capacity the better as in my logic, everything is close to being maxed out w/ 7k axles and 3k+ on truck. Am I missing something?

Hi NYSUPstater,

I'd suggest you call Heartland Customer Service at 877-262-8032 / 574-262-8030. Ask for Big Country sales. Unless they've decided to stop offering 8K axle options as a way of streamlining production, I would think they could accommodate you.

Look for an axle and trailer repair shop near you . . .

I'll bet they can get them for you, and may even have them in stock already.

And they most likely will be less expensive and a much better install than any dealership can provide.

I'm working with just such a shop here in north Denver as we are needing some axle work done.

They have stacks and stacks of brand new trailer axles at their shop.

Ebay has 7000 and 10,000 but I could not find any 8,000. Look around and you can find a set of 8,000 lb. Question? what is the difference between 7200, 8000, and 10,000 lb axles? as far as axle stub and tubing diameter and wall thickness.

Go to this PDF and compare the germain dimensions.

And it turned out AMAZING! It was very reasonably priced and I would highly recommend to upgrade to disc brakes while you do it.

Rod

Call Ron (405) 626-7009 the Titan brake guy.
He put 8k axles and disc brakes on Rod's Landmark in Vegas.

Have a call placed into Heartland and spoke w/ Redneck Sales. I thought Redneck was an installer, but they are just a distributer. Come to find out, couple places near me deal w/ Redneck so it wouldn't be a big deal. If the 8k axles are avail from factory, will see about getting them.

My question then, is it or would it be a good idea to get the 8k's? If they are avail, why won't mfr's put them on in the 1st place as a safety margin?

My guess is more weight and more money.

I think part of why they are NOT standard equipment is that people buy these larger, nicer RVs for different reasons. Ours came with the upgrade 8K axles but we don't intend on towing this beauty around the country. It's our home base. We have a smaller, 30 foot tagalong that we use for traveling.

If it came with the 7K axles, we wouldn't have paid for an upgrade because we have no intent to use them.

Installing 8K axles on a trailer that was never designed to carry that weight I think is a question that is not simple to answer. Just because the load limit is greater on the axle the frame was not designed for the extra load. Then there is the case that with the larger axles come stronger spring. The spring are designed to work with the increased weight but when the load is lighter there will be more bouncing. The rigs already bounce too much on the bad roads. All the extra vibrations can't be good on the frame in the long run. When I spoke to Gary at Morryde about increase the the weight rating of the axles that they are installing in two weeks for me he said that it is not advised to have it any stiffer suspension that is needed especially if your not carrying the max weight. Just my thoughts.

My two cents, I would not worry about upgrading to the 8k axles (save that $$), and look at the MorRyde Independent Suspension and disc brakes upgrade. We just got ours done, and a ton of others on the forum have as well, and have been extremely pleased. The guys at MorRyde are the best at what they do, if you need 7k or 8k axles, they will tell you. It's worth every penny in my opinion and I'm not sure why i didn't do it sooner. Contact Gary or Rob, they are both great to deal with and very helpful. I didn't see in your post if you are in the process of building a BC or if you already have it, and want to upgrade your axles. If you are building it, you should be able to have it sent over to MorRyde (with a little coordinating from Heartland) before it even leaves Elkhart. I know Rob was telling us that it happens from time to time, people will send their Rig over to MorRyde before it get sent to your dealer. Good Luck man!
