I replaced only the head and use the power unit that is in the trailer. I don't like walking on the roof, just me but I think it invites damage and leaks so I put the old trusty Little Giant Ladder up on the side next to the antenna and went to work. I did notice a big difference in the number of channels from the bat wing.
