Banff/Canmore Alberta CG's

We're planning to spend 1-2 weeks in Banff NP and are looking for a good campground for a 39' 5th wheel. Is there anything that's NOT right next to the train tracks? If not, any suggestions for further afield campgrounds within easy driving distance? This will be our first trip to the Canadian Rockies.:)

Hello Scott and Sylvia - great that you are coming to visit us in the Canadian Rockies! I can provide some assistance here.

The Banff and Jasper national parks are great to stay in and the websites (Link here) provides some assistance on campgrounds. Unfortunately most spots are for 28 ft and shorter units. Tunnel mountain in Banff (link) offers good dry camping and serviced sites). We usually stay outside the national parks and travel in to the areas for our day trips. The Bow Valley campground (just outside Banff National Park is a park we stay at every once and a while. These can be reserved online using the Government of Alberta online reservation site - a good reference for other campgrounds in Alberta - you can search and view photos of each site.

If you want additional info - PM me.

Take Care,
Brian

You might try Kanaskis, itmit outside the park and has large sites, indoor hotub facing mount kidd, it is usuall tuff to get into but iff you phone now you should get a better handle on it. The sites are large and surounded by bush, we had a 23 foot 5th a 35 foot 5th and 35 fooy motor home with a 20 foot tag in one site.

2 golf courses and a 5 mile bycile paved path.

Unfortunately Kananaskis is closed for a while due to the record flooding we had here last week. The main road in has had significant wash outs and it will be a while before the roads/bridges are repaired. The Kananaskis Golf Course was wiped out - closed for the rest of the season; maybe longer.

Link to online map showing closures.
