bighorn 3875 heating issue

we have a 2016 and have never been able to get the 2nd tank to autoswitch over.... since we never needed heat the first year, didn't know there could be a problem.... so today, hubby pulls the complete hose assemble out of the unit and has it tested... all is well with it so says technician but turns out, maybe we weren't properly storing the tank in the open position so the switch couldn't switch over... now we have it in the open position but we can hear the gas? does it take time to depressurize like or are we still doing something wrong?

Thanks Dave... we have found the issue...not only were we not doing it correctly but we did have a leak also... all fixed now. Thanks, D
