Black Tank Flush Newbie question

Hello all,

We have a 2016 Trail Runner 30 USBH that (according to the paperwork) is equipped with a black water tank flush system. I am trying to figure out where I hook the hose for said system. It would make sense that it would be near the valves to empty the tanks but that isn't the case. There is an unlabeled hose hook up on the opposite side of the camper from the tank valves, is that it? The city water and gravity fill spots ARE labeled leaving this last one as a mystery. The owners manual is not helpful for this...

I feel like an idiot but when all else fails, you swallow your pride and ask right?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thank you both for your quick replies and advice! We've had the rig for a year but it only has about 2 months worth of use under its belt. It's a learning process for sure and I appreciate having the folks here to ask.

GingerTribe,

You might want to look over our collection of owner-written user guides. You can get to them from the Tools tab at top of page by selecting HUG - Heartland User Guides. Or use this link.

Don't walk away while flushing your black tank. After the initial draining of the tank, close the black tank gate valve and allow the black tank sprayer to run for four minuets. Then open the gate valve again. Do this twice. Have I said DON"T walk away? If the black tank fills, it will come out the toilet or the roof vent. It takes a lot longer than four minuets, but time goes very fast getting distracted doing something else or talking to someone.

Use a garden hose for the black tank flush. Do not use your drinking water hose. The reason should be obvious. And always use a pressure regulator or you will blow the fittings.

We have been out with our 2010 Heartland 35QSOB once for two weeks. We met some nice people at Paul's RV Park in Brownsville TX. They helped us with our first dump of our tanks. The problem is our rear black tank. We could not figure out how to drain it.

We dumped the Front Black tanks and two Grey Water tanks forward.

It does not appear that the rear tank is connected to the front section of the RV. I did connect a hose to the rear tank but nothing was coming out.

We need help before our next trip in about a month.

Thanks

Did you find the gate valve handle for the rear tank?

Thank You. I did not get under my RV the first time. It was not labeled where we could see if. It was under the body and you could only see it be getting under.
This is great, now we can empty that tank too. But there is no Grey tank that empties into this rear black tank!

We used to have a 2013 Heartland Trail Runner 22RK (RK stands for Rear Kitchen), and it had two grey water tanks!

One of them handled the kitchen . . . the other was for the bathroom and shower!

While I used to think it was a major PITA to have to deal with both of the grey tanks when dumping . . . now that I don't have that option with our new 2015 Heartland Prowler . . . I find ourselves with an issue of capacity when camping!

In otherwords . . . we don't have the same capacity when camping off the grid (ie.- boondocking) . . .

In many ways I wish we still had our 2013 Heartland Trail Runner TR22RK . . . but in reality, I wouldn't go back to it for our new 2015 Heartland Prowler P292 5th-wheeler for nothing else!

I have a question...my 2017
Bighorn has a Black_Tank_Flusher flushing system. is there a "spray-ring" inside the tank...or does it just allow you to "quick-fill" the tank to flush it clean? Thanks

There is a spray nozzle in the tank, across from the drain. It's supposed to help rinse the inside and remove Klingons. You can use it to add a charge of water to the tank after dumping, if you are watchful not to add too much.

thanks John.....that's good.
much better than just a quick-fill to flush deal.

I like to turn on the flusher when I guesstimate the tank has dumped about half or more and let it run until the outflow in the clear adapter appears reasonably clean. Then I close the tank valve and add 5 or 6 gallons into the closed tank, then shut the flusher off. I have a water meter in my set-up, so I know how much I put in. Key to not getting a poop pyramid in the tank is to not skimp on water. I'd rather dump more often than have to drop a block of C-4 in the commode to clear it.
