Hi boggess1112,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum. Several other owners have taken apart their gate valves and hopefully one will see this thread and fill in the blanks for you.

The You Tube video I watched on the subject ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKSHnWhpMf0 ) just showed the repair guy removing the 4 bolts and replacing the center blade section and seals. He just pulled on the piping for about 1/4 inch extra clearance. If your piping won't move easily (or stay moved while you remove and replace the parts) maybe you could rig up some sort of "plumbing spreader" using ratchet straps, duct tape, baling wire or whatever. Just don't pull too much and break the piping!!!

Gently pull the flanges apart. You will need to be able to pull it apart approximately 1/2" for it to clear the seals.

If you need to spread the valve body to remove the blade and seal, and the plumbing wont allow it I suggest cutting a one inch section of that pipe out of the system.
Purchase a Fernco rubber coupling, make your valve repair and put it all back together with the new coupling.
You can get the Fernco products at any big box home repair center or most hardware store that sells plumbing supplies.

Peace
Dave
