Hi All,
We are planning a trip through Western Canada this summer and will be taking in the Calgary Stampede as one of the attractions. After the Stampede, we will be towing our Bighorn West along Hwy #1, ultimately landing at Osoyoos for a week before starting back home. Does anyone from that area have any recommendations regarding RV campgrounds in the Golden or Salmon Arm areas. Our our on-line search finds a number, but some seem to be lacking in amenities, or are a bit tight for bigger rigs. Thanks for any advice you might have.

Calagary is short on Campgrounds but there are a couple at Okotoks and High River which are about 20 miles out on the south side off of hiway 2. It is best to park there and drive into the south side of the city where you can board an LRT train that can take you anywhere cheaply and very low stress.
Going west, Banff has a great government campground called Tunnel Mountain with pull thru sites. Golden has a campground right on the river which is run by the town (Municipal) but we prefer the Whispering Spruce which is on the way into town and sits up on top of a bench of the valley. The Hotel next door has a restaurant/bar that looks out on the valley and is definitely worth visiting.
Going west to Revelstoke, there is an incredible campground north on hiway 23 maybe 10 miles called Martha Creek Campground (provincial park) They keep a bunch of sites along the river/lake open for pull ins so try and get there about 10 or 11 and score a peaceful site beside the water. You will need to top your tank as there is no water or power hookups but for a night or two it is wonderful.
Once you get to the narrows at Sicamous, hiway 97a goes south thru Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and ultimately Osoyoos There are a ton rv parks along this route and Good Sam is a good source for reviews.

Good Luck and have a ball.

I can't add a whole lot more than the above post but there is a good RV Park in Cochrane just west of Calgary call Bow river edge.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. One of our key reasons for the trip was to take in the Calgary Stampede for the first time. We made reservations at Bow River's Edge for the week and have followed up with reservations at a number of CG's thru the mountains to Osoyoos. Normally, we have not made reservations and kind of "wing it" when on the road, taking advice from fellow travellers as we go. This year we are booking ahead well in advance and we'll see if that makes life any easier. Our return trip thru Canada will be more a seat of the pants thing as we have no particular agenda to follow. Thanks again.
