Ceiling Light over Dining Table

Gang:
I have had the itch to get some more light out of this. Besides going to LED bulbs, I would like to replace the milky white glass dome with a clear one. The dome glass is 8 1/2 inches in diameter, 2 3/4 inches deep. I spent about an hour searching the internet for something like this, after making a visit to my local home improvement stores. No luck.

Has anyone done this and have a source for me?

Thanks,

With the NorCal LOWs on the banks of the Sacramento River in Corning, Ca.

No idea on the replacement glass dome other than looking for a complete fixture which may be a better way to go. We replaced our bulbs with some high output LED's which work much better. Be careful though, the first LED bulbs we found weren't much brighter than the original 921 bulbs, but we found some good ones at the Tampa RV show at one of the booths.

Bill, I'll check at work on Monday. We have some NOS fixtures over there and I'll see if any have clear lens. I'm assuming you have the same antique bronze fixture I do? Round with a couple bulbs? I did find a conversion for candlepower to lumens, which although not real accurate, does help some in figuring out the bulb sizes. its lumens divided by 12.57.

Have fun at Corning. The sunsets across the river at that place are absolutely awesome. A couple of good mexican restaurants in town, and the olive place has GREAT sandwiches. I hear the Lucero olive oil place has a wonderful tour as well. I'm going to the KOA next Wednesday night, so will honk on the way by..

Deb (And all listening in) :
Thanks for looking for this. If you find something, bring it to the Oroville rally next weekend please, and I will write a check. I have the standard Bighorn 2 lamp, antique bronze ring ceiling fixture.
On Woodsen RV in Corning. Yes, the sunsets are an event. Yesterday, we went to the Corning chamber of Commerce/Museum, and got a informative lecture by the Mayor. They had the first Auto Travelers Campground in California, the forerunner of our present day RV parks. We went on to "The Olive Pit" and sampled (and bought) gourmet olives with all sorts of flavorings. I'll share my Blue Cheese stuffed ones at the rally. We then went to the Colivio Olive Oil Factory and ended up at the Rolling hills Casino for their Thursday 1/2 price buffet ($5.95) . Then most of us proceeded to support the cause of impoverished Indians for a while. Tomorrow we are going to the New Clarevaux Monastery and winery (with a 600 year old chapel purchased by WR Hearst, disassembled in Spain, shipped to California, and left in pieces until a few years ago when the Trappists got it and decided to rebuild it in Vina), and a museum in Chico.
I plan to stay at Black Butte Lake COE campground outside Orland between rallies. I may come over to Oroville early (We or Thu?) and join you, if I can swing it.

Bill, I'll also check to see what lumen rating our 921 bulbs come in. I've been wanting to brighten mine up a little too. I swapped the reading lamp bulbs out for some new LED's a couple months ago. Makes a pretty big difference, especially for the heat output. Light is much clearer, brighter hue than the old ones. Newer LED's are now coming in Cool white, natural white and warm white.

We'll be at the KOA Wed. nite, but will have to move on Thursday into the rally spot. I had mistakenly only booked Thursday thru Sunday.

Which 921 bulb should we choose to replace the dinette bulbs? I see there are a couple of 921's available. Also, is it just remove and replace? I'll be doing this one myself, so I want to make sure of what I need to prepare for. Thanks.

Back to the OP's question. I purched a clear globe at Lowe's. My bro got one at Home Depot. You will need to buy the entire fixture.PeaceDave

Dave:
Thanks for the info! I checked my local Home Depot, looked at both home Depot's and Lowe's websites, an internet search, and couldn't find anything. I will try Lowe's next week maybe. I though i had read a post about someone buying a clear globe seperately. We also have a number of lighting/lamp stores in Sacramento, so I might find one there.

Went thru the same headaches some time back over the dining area fixture. All of the "pro" posters/advice givers will more than likely weigh in with good advice. After consideration of the same things you'll hear, my advice is to go to Lowes or Home "Debit" and buy a clear domed fixture of your bride's choice and modify it for your DC "bubs" and go from there. I'm on my second set of LED bulbs to get the proper kind of light over the table. I looked far and wide for a replacement globe before buying the whole fixture.................Good Luck!
