Concern over gas strut attached to entry door

I just took delivery of a 2014 32 BUDS Caliber Edition and she seems to be a beautiful rig. I have a few questions/concerns that maybe someone here can help me with. The main door to the camper has a gas strut attached from the top of the door to the camper just above the door frame. I can see the exterior fiberglass of the camper flex each time the door is opened and I am concerned it is going to tear right out of the camper. I was considering disconnecting it and just letting the door open freely and pad the back of the door or awning from impacts.

Second question is the camper is equipped with a power awning and I was wondering if there is anyway to lower the awning into a extended but fully lowered position. When I had a manual awning we would lower it and it would be unaffected by wind but still offer some protection to items left outside the camper. Thoughts? Ideas?

I seem recall having to put in longer and bigger screws on the gas strut bracket where it screwed in to the trailer in my North Trail.

If your awning is the same Carefree electric awning I had on my North Trail, then it is not adustable. Mine went almost straight out with only a slight downward ange.
