CUMMINS ONAN 5500 strange problem.

We had a major power failure at out CG this weekend, so I decided to fire up out genny for the first time. Checked the oil to make sure it was there and full. Filled the fuel tank for the first time. Primed the genny.

After some initial cranking, it fired up nicely, but as soon as I let go on the switch on the panel inside the RV, it would shut down.
I tried a number of times and it would run as long as I held the switch on, then stop as soon as I released it. After a number of tries, I went outside and tried starting it from the switch on the genny itself. Worked perfectly and kept running.

A number of hours later, I tried again using the switch inside and had the same problem...... Went back outside, hit the switch on the genny itself and again it worked perfectly & ran the entire night....

Any ideas? Could it simply be a faulty switch inside?

BTW, it is a gasoline version.

Check the remote switch pin connector to make sure it's seated properly???

Are you sure you are holding down the start switch for long enough to let the oil pressure build up. You can't let off as soon as it fires up. Add 2-3 seconds.

I've held it for as long as 3 minutes........ Not necessary to hold that long when using the switch out on the gen......
