Disc Brakes

We did our first disc brake conversion when we were using a 2009 Silverado 2500HD as a tow vehicle. It had an integrated (factory installed) brake controller. On that particular model it was necessary to add a heavy resistor to the brake wiring in the trailer. Not complicated to do at all; the part runs about $60 from Performance Trailer Braking.

Seems that the electric over hydraulic brake unit draws less current than the conventional electric brakes. On that truck, the truck's computer equated that lower resistance with the brakes not working and did not power them up. The resistor wired to ground increased the load and triggered the controller to provide power.

We went to a Ford tow vehicle in 2017, and it had the option for Hyd/Elec in the setup menu, as others have described.

Hope this helps.
