I am looking into buy a 2015 Dodge 2500hd 6.7 des. was wandering what the mpg. would be. when towing.if anyone out there has one.I know my gmc 2500 with. a vortex 6.2 it pulls good but only gets 6-7mpg when pulling my 34ft 5eri . I think i would have a hard time pulling the mountains out west. I would like to get Another Gmc , but i can get a new dodge for about 8 grand less

I've got a 2014 Dodge 3500 CC Long Bed, Dually with 3.73 rear axle and Aisin transmission. Towing our 16,000 lb Landmark between Texas and Colorado, we're averaging close to 10 mpg. Less headed west because of headwinds and going uphill. More coming down and having a tailwind.
I'd suggest getting a 3500. The cost difference is very minimal and the 3500 will give you the extra 1500 lbs of payload that you need with fifth wheels.

I have a 2014 3500 CCLB SRW and get 10-13 pulling my Sundance. There isn't much difference in the price of a 2500 vs 3500. I would go to 3500 for the extra payload. Just traded my 12' 2500 so I would have more wiggle room on payload for the future. As mentioned above, you get an extra 1500 lbs of payload for the same money.

I have a 2014 Ram 3500 DRW, long bed with the Aisin transmission, 3.42 rear end, Brake controller and exhaust brake. Can tow my Ashland with ease and averaged 10.42 MPG (based on the MPG computer) and that was going from 5,600 ft to 7,000 ft in an hour and fifteen minutes (Albuquerque to Santa Fe). Will be taking it to California next week and will have a better idea how well it tows plus MPG on a 950 mile trip.
Also I agree with everyone else in I would go with the 3500 for it will give you a lot of safety margin. Especially the dually.
In this case bigger is better.

Pulling our 8000 pound Heartland Trail Runner around the Rocky Mountains with a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0 Vortec V8 gasser equipped with the 4.10 rear end and getting roughly 12 mpg, and 14 mpg without the trailer in tow!

IMO for any trailer under 10k lbs I would stay with gas and lighter truck. In America there is a conspiracy to discourage the application of diesel for private use by gouging at the pumps.
The companies make to much money exporting diesel and importing gasoline.

Welcome. I'm pulling a light weight 5er with my 2014 Ram 2500 CTD 4X4 and getting about 11 1/5 MPG by the EVIC. Only have 5600 miles on it now. I think it will do better after it gets broken in. With the price being about the same on the 2500 and 3500, I would opt for the 3500 SRW SWB. If I had it to do over again, I would have the 3500. The 3500 gives you the option for better towing gears, better trans and an extra 50lbs of torque with the Aisin trans along with payload for growth.lol I would get at least the 3;73 gears Since I seem to be moving up 1 foot at a time, I'll be changing to the 3500 later. Bunch of people on this site will be telling me " I told you so". Anyway, I love my truck and it pulls my 5er great. Good luck on your new truck and you've got o love the new Rams. Later

I've got 6,675 miles on my truck (just checked with my OnStar app) . . . last time I towed the trailer I had just under 2,000 miles on it.
I'm hoping I'll get better mileage when I pull next time in January when we go to the HOC Rally in Arizona now that it is broken in.
I've been mostly a Dodge truck guy over the years (have had 3 Ford trucks, 5 Dodge trucks, and now my first Chevy truck) . . .
So far, my new Chevy truck has amazed me beyond my expectations!
That 4.10 rear end is simply awesome!
Old and New:
I do miss that Dodge 1500 4x4 . . . my most favorite vehicle I've ever owned!
It is now residing in Rochester, NY, and the new owner is having great luck with it!
Had 164,000 miles on it when I sold it to him, and he has put 11,000 more miles on it pulling his car collection (four hot rods) from Denver to New York, and the only issues he has had was a burnt out headlight and the headlight switch burned out (which I think was caused by something in his car trailer wiring) . . .

I have a 2009 Dodge ram 2500, 6.7l turbo, 410 rear. Get 14-17 unhitched, 10 pulling my 13-14000# Gateway 3200rs. Not the best mpg, but a great truck

To answer your question on mileage, you have to tell us what speed you drive at.
With my Duramax 3500 and my BH3055, I got:
12-13 mpg at 55 mph
10.5-11.5 at 60
10-11 at 65
9-10.3 at 70
Plan on a 10% decrease in mpg for every 5 mph over 55 mph.
