Dometic Fridge Propane ignitor not working

Hello all,
Just curious if anyone has had the same problem..... Originally the fridge was burning up the ignitor wire due to the propane pre-igniting where it shouldnt have (coulda burned the trailer down). Replaced two ignitors before we found the true problem. Took the rig back to the dealer where they supposedly corrected the problem. Now the ignitor will not even click when switched to propane. Any one have similar issues or have any ideas. Tired of going back to the dealer. Thanks

Hi firevaughn,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum. There's a lot of useful information here along with a great bunch of people who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

I don't recall anyone posting about a problem like this over the past couple of years, so you may the first.

I'm not sure I understand your comment about the propane "pre-igniting". The way the safety controls work, if the propane valve opens, there should be a spark at about the same time to ignite the propane, and there's a thermocouple that monitors for flame and tries to re-ignite. Failing that, the gas gets shut off as a safety measure.

It sounds like you need to find a different repair tech. I wouldn't want someone working on my propane systems who didn't fix it correctly several times in a row. At this point, it sounds like the propane side of the unit could be out of spec and might have been reassembled incorrectly.

Dometic reefers carry a 2 year parts and labor and 3 year parts warranty. Have you tried calling Dometic? This sounds like a situation where their expertise is required.
