Electric slideout help.

Went to bring my electric slideout in on my 2010, 3580 Big Horn after being extended since last October and it won't go in. I checked the breakers and fuses and no lights are on on the 12 volt side. We had planned to leave the trailer in Fl. and come back to MI. for a couple weeks when we were closing shop thats when I noticed the slide not going in. Since we were not pulling the trailer it wasn't a big deal so I just closed the hydraulic 2 slides and left the bedroom slide extended. I figured I would start this thread so you guys can give me some suggestions on what to do to fix this when I return to Fl. after Labor Day. When I hit the button there is no noise or movement at all, this is the first time we ever had a issue with this electric slideout. What should I do guys ???
Thank you,

Bobby A

I think I would first check the wiring and power to your motor making sure something didn't chew through your wiring. You may have to retrace your wiring back to the breaker. Good luk with it!

O.k. thanks tjspencer, I am surprised no more people have addressed this, am I the only one that has had a bedroom electric slide not retract ??? It would be just my luck !! LOL Where is the motor for this ???

Thanks,

Bobby,

I had to replace a cable on the bedroom slide in my Pinehurst, the motor is either under the head of the bed or below the cabinet that is to the left of the bed behind the carpeted vertical panel. To remove the carpeted panel you will need to find the screws hidden in the carpet.

Here are some pictures of the area when I change a cable on my bedroom slide on my 2009 Pinhurst. Check for power at the motor, if there power at the motor, tap it with a rubber hammer. If that doesn't work. There is a manual turning socket. I think a 1/4 driver will turn it, but not sure of the size. Use a drill motor or I do think you can use a ratchet but it will be slow going. Check it again after you turn the motor a few turns. The motor should be easy to change if needed. You can see the motor in picture 3 .

Mike,

Thanks for the pictures. It refreshes my memory that the motor is under the head of the bed. It will also help Bobby get to the motor faster. He has a Big Horn 3580 which is the same floor as the Pinehurst.

Well,

Thank you Terry and Mike for coming to the rescue, I am away from my rig until right after Labor Day then I will do as Mike suggests. I don't believe its a cable issue but I can't be for certain. I will get back to both of you at that point, pictures are worth a thousand words, thanks very much !!

Be safe out there,
Bobby

O.k. Mike and Terry, I'm back at my rig and gonna try tackling the bedroom slide issue this weekend. The thought occured to me, how do you know if its a bad cable ?? and where did you get the new cable ?? When your cable went bad would you hear the motor running when you pushed the switch ?? When I push my switch I hear nothing. Any extra advise would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Update,

Well I starting tracing the slideout issue, I was told by someone to check the auto breakers by the battery first. I see the breakers under the red rubber covers but sure don't see a button to push to reset them ??? So I moved on to the switch in the panel, I removed to 2 screws and pulling the wireing out of the hole and pushed the connections in and wiggled the wires abit and sure enough the slidout started moving. So I'm not sure if I have a short somewhere or a loose connection at the switch or possibly somewhere else. I don't know how in the world I would trace the wires from the panel back to the motor, its gotta run somewhere in the wall or roof?? But at least I got it to work, any suggestions anyone.
Thanks,
Bobby A

Bobby A,
I have a 2010 BH 3410 that has hydraulic cylinders that operate all three slides. There a number of post that have addressed the problem with circuit brakers being undersized for this application. I have personally up graded to an 80 amp breaker. I use a dry film motor cycle chain lubricant by DUPONT (will not attract dirt), purchased at either Lowe's or WalMat to lubricate the tracks and gears under the trailer. There is a possibility that your slide rocker swith is going bad. Most of the RV dealers sell these swithces for less than $20.00 (have one in my spare part bin). BTW - Do you have a rocker swith located adjacent to the hydraulic pump that allows you to operate the slide from the pump location?

Bobby,

You likely do not have a short. You likely have an electrical discontinuity in that circuit - most likely right there at the switch. Consider cutting the 12 volt power to the coach. To do this, unplug the converter or disconnect AC power to the coach. Then, disconnect the house battery(ies) or rotate the battery switch if you have one.

Using a trouble lamp powered by battery or a an extension cord from the power pedestal, remove the switch from the panel, take a picture of the back of the switch or write down what color wires connect to what terminal position on the switch.

Unplug the spade connectors from the switch terminals and use some electrical contact cleaner on the (hardware store, Radio Shack etc.) spade connectors and switch terminals (where's Bill? - WDK450 - we need you here to splain better then me!).

Dry it all off, plug it all back together, repower the coach, pray and try the switch.

It's worth a shot - right?

Good luck buddy!

Bobby,

I have another thought. In that your slide has worked in the past and now doesn't, but almost maybe does (your wire wiggling not withstanding) - it still could be a defective circuit breaker (one of those under the red rubber covers.

A quick way to test them is to "carefully" jump around them. I don't know which one handles your bedroom slide, but a quick call to Service on Monday will yield that answer. Unless Danemayer finds the schematic on this forum first :) It's here somewhere.

Here's the diagram of the 12V circuit breakers.

Thanks Dan!

Bobby, looks like it's the second mini-breaker from the right.

Note that this breaker is an auto-reset type. So there will be no tiny switch on the bottom of it to manually reset. So the only use in knowing which breaker it is, is if you plan to jump around it to test if it's bad or not. Careful when doing anything in that area. The buss bar is open and using wires or anything metallic in that area is like playing the game "Operation" but with worse results when you touch the sides :)

Call me if you want to chat about it - I jumped around one on a Landmark Oakmont at a campground once, just to determine if the breaker was bad. It was.
